June 20th 2009 Soaking up the sun California has some pretty nice weather and some pretty stunning beaches to go with it. Such a combination has made sunbathing an inevitable priority for the past few days. Having ditched the idea of wearing a nun's habit - my original answer to foolproof sunscreen - I opted for SPF 30 and a skimpy new swimsuit. On my quest for a regular bikini it quickly became apparent that Californians go in for shockingly tiny swimwear; my regular underwear is bigger than most of the suits I found! After checking out the hotel we headed for a day at the beach, what a day to choose, bright sun, great beach and awesome waves! We played volleyball on the beach for a while before hitting the surf with the bodyboard we had found! In the evening we were driving round looking for somewhere to stay and bumped into these 2 girls (Katie and Jenny) in a truck, we asked them if they knew of anywhere and they said follow us to the top of the world... we did! They were heading up the hills above Laguna Beach so we followed wondering where they were taking us! LATE JANUARY 2007 A Sunday run with friends at El Moro State Park reminds me how nature and wilderness can be so rejuvenating. I did spy a few bunnies and a lizard or two along the way. It is hard to believe that a Trader Joes and Ann Taylor Clothing store is a mile down the road.
