We got to Indian...then we had the weekend off. We headed to Anchorage to get Dad's truck....we were free! I felt 16 again with Dad's truck and a boy! It was wonderful.... We headed in the little Ford Ranger down the Seward Highway to go to the woods...we hiked into Ptarmigan Lake with our friend Dave. It was one of my favorite spots on this Alaskan Adventure.... read more

We didn’t spend much time hanging out at the cabin this morning (what else would you expect). I had read about an International Coastal Cleanup Day that was being organized out of the Alaska SeaLife Center. We were ready to help out in exchange for free admission to the Center. We went to the front desk to find out what we could do to help… Not only did no one at the front desk not know about it, but no one on staff knew about it. It was actually pretty comical to hear the staff radioing back and forth trying to figure it out. In the end, they told us that we were comped for admission (wow, a savings of $42) and they didn’t know what else to do for the cleanup… We spent a couple ... read more

Our first trip to Alaska July 15-25th 2007, We have always loved Colorado the best of all places we've been, but Alaska has Co. beat!!!!! It's alot like Co. going to see Mt. Mckinley, but the coastal part is the best. Mt. Mckinley can only be seen 20% of the time, and we got to see it going and leaving Denali National Park. The two boat tours we took were great, we even saw some whales !! one out of Seward and the other out of Whittier......Thay both had wild life, the one out of whittier was a glacier cruise. Hope u enjoy these pics........ read more

Howdee folks howyal doin, the last entry made was from Southsea which seems a million miles away, in fact it probably is, since then we have made some considerable adjustments to our lifestyle. We have down sized from the relative luxury of our beloved van to carrying all our wordly goods in a couple of rucksacs and sleeping in the equivalent of a crisp packet. The transition from luxury to poverty, from UK to USA ,from pounds to dollars was fairly uneventful. The outward flight was delayed by 5 hours so added to a 10 hour flight made hard going. Eventually after reading everything to hand including guidebooks, newspapers, spanish dictionaries and flight safety cards together with games of eye spy and 'guess which air hostess I would most like to sit on my face' we arrived at ... read more

Wednesday August 15, 2007 We woke up to a rainy day, but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits. Today we were scheduled for the boat tour of Kenai Fjords National Park. There were only 8 people on the boat (it was a small one) and there was some question as to whether it would go out, but it did. The further we got from town, the better the weather. By the time we reached the Gulf of Alaska the sun was out! The highlight of the tour was the sea birds and mammals. The captain was a woman and she did a good job finding wildlife and narrating the trip. Frank loved it because she knew a lot about birds and geology. The temperature was comfortable and the seas were fairly smooth. I’ve read that ... read more

Tuesday August 14, 2007 Tuesday morning was a cloudy morning that turned into a rainy afternoon. We really couldn’t complain since we haven’t had rain for a week. We spent most of the day at the Sea Life Center. It’s similar to a small aquarium. It showcases marine life of Alaska and the Bering Sea and does research on the mammals and fish. We really enjoyed the sea bird aviary. You can watch the birds above and below water. The puffins have a lot of personality. There are also tanks with sea lions and harbor seals. We watched a movie on birds that migrate to Alaska and heard a presentation on archeology of the Kenai Fjords National Park. It was a nice slow paced day. Since we’ve been in Alaska we haven’t eaten in a restaurant ... read more

Monday August 13, 2007 We got up to another sunny morning. We noticed that the River had risen quite a bit during the night. We were still on dry land, but two other campers weren’t as fortunate. They were now parked in several inches of water! We took off for Seward, another big fishing mecca on Resurrection Bay that goes out into the Gulf of Alaska. It is the port town for Kenai Fjords National Park. On our way we stopped at Exit Glacier. We have seen a lot of glaciers in Alaska and this one is not very impressive, but it is easy to get to. After a hike to the viewing platform, we ate lunch and moved on. We chose a campsite operated by the city overlooking Resurrection Bay. This one has water and ... read more

June 10th: Boarded the "American Eagle" flight to Los Angeles. Nothing to mention except that we had no complaints. That was the first time I saw LAX & immediately understood that it is as fast paced as the city itself. After a 3 hr walking in the airport, we boarded DL 816 to Anchorage. LA was blanketed in fog. Once the airplane took off, we came out of the fog & there was this Sun as if it was there all the time! For most of the journey, I fell asleep(or at least tried to). Ganesh was immersed in a movie. A sudden turbulence made the seat belt mandatory. Most of us got up, looked down & never went back to sleep at all. 30000 ft below us were these huge glaciers, glacier-carved mountains, hundreds of ... read more

The rain continued to slowly fall in Seward on Saturday. This did not stop us from getting out and seeing a little more of the town. The town has an Alaska sea life center where we were able to see sea lions, seals, puffins, and other critters that roam the ocean floor. We made our way out to see Exit Glacier. Mom and dad had visited earlier on thier trip and were one of two families that were there at the time. It was about a 1/2 mile walk from the visiters center. Well worth it! We left for Homer Sunday (6/10). Another pretty ride. We stopped briefly at another place mom and had already visited along the way called Ninilchik. We were amazed at how they take boats in and out of the water...with ... read more
