My brother in law and i went to play some golf today, after we went to "Flo's pancake house" for breakfest. Flo's was great and i havent had such a breakfest for ages. anyways, we went to his farv course but they were holding a tournament so we couldnt play there. We went to a very public place and rented a set for me and we started off. it was a complete joke, not that i hadnt played the game for 2-3 years but the course, the fariway was more or less rough and the green was 20% concrete with a [View Full Entry]

There i was, just got off in Anchorage, Alaska, i was really tired after 24 hours of travelling. I went to go through the passport control, no problems there. I took my passport and proceeded to get my bagage, when i heard a voice "Mr. Turner, would you please come this way?" hah! i was going to be interrogated. They wanted to know if i knew how severe a crime it was to smuggle stuff, if i was doing anything like that, apperently they seemed more conserned about smuggling birds then drugs. that bird flu is a serious thing over here. Way out

Today I made the 125-mile ride from Anchorage to Seward. It was cloudy and overcast but then again it made for some unique photos. I traveled down Alaska Highway 1 down the Cook Inlet Turnagain Arm inlet that also leads to the Kenai Peninsula. Tides play a very large part of the Cook Inlet and it was out on this particular time I went through the area. Locals reminded me of the dangers of the mudflats. Beside mountains, forests and glaciers, Anchorage is home to mudflats that encompass the tidelands beneath the upper Cook Inlet and the Turnagain Arm. At low [View Full Entry]

Hi guys, I'm just starting to thaw out and get warm again. What started out as a relaxing ride from Fairbanks to Anchorage soon turned into one of the coldest days in my ride. I don't mind riding in colder temps but after 4-5 hours of 44 to 48 degrees no matter how well you are dressed, it starts to go through you to the bone. It was also raining off and on during the trip. My back is holding up pretty good although I may have to get a massage while I'm in Anchorage. Also, I noticed that my front [View Full Entry]

Hello all, Slept in today till 0700 hours (7:00 am) and then went to breakfast and then to the Honda motorcycle shop. After talking with a service technician I decided that I will change my oil when I get home. Honda recommends oil change every 7-8,000 miles. I only have 3,000 miles. As far as the wobble, his comment was (as well as Honda Corporate), "keep your hands on the handle bars." Duh! He did say it was normal to have a heavy bike like mine wobble at slower speeds when you take the hands off the steering. As for the [View Full Entry]

And I'm off! I leave early tomorrow morning to start my world adventures! First stop Nepal. We will supposedly have internet access the first couple days in Kathmandu but after that it could be sketchy for the next 6 weeks. So we'll see what happens... Have a good summer and see you at Christmas! [View Full Entry]

Well, the journey has begun. My sweetie dropped me off at the airport at around 6AM and I breezed through Anchorage security. Our flight left on time and the flight was reasonably non-eventful, with only a 30 minute delay for landing due to thunderstorms in the Chicago area. Luggage was delayed as well due to lightening strikes, but by 6:30PM (all times will be referenced in local time zones) I was on the shuttle to the Ohare Gardens Hotel, which is located close to the airport.

We were able to stay in Denali National Park at Riley Creek Campground, and with our senior status, at $10 per night. This lovely campground in the forest required that we “dry camp.” Our experience without hookups had been limited to just a few days at a time so we had to learn the real meaning of “conserving.” Located by the restroom with an outdoor water source, we were able to fill containeres and save our water tank for showers, etc. and use the restroom when possible. Well it worked and we still had water and room in waste tanks when [View Full Entry]
