I know what you're thinking: another lower-tier game in Alabama. Guilty. But in my defense, the lower level of FBS football has been much more attractive this season than in previous seasons, mainly due to price and availability. But one of the schools that I wanted to attend even before the pandemic was Troy. I drove past the school on the same trip that I visited Southern Miss, five years ago, and I was equally desirous of attending a football game here as there. the schedule for this season, however, favored Southern Miss in September and Troy in October. To be honest, Troy was a potential site for me for several weeks this season, but since I skipped last week (after attending for two weeks in a row), I felt the need to go somewhere this ... read more

In one week this whole thing will be over. No more English speaking day in day out, no more easy classes, no more nerds&sourpatchkids, no more pace hall, no more chinese people keeping me awake, no more football, no more being ID'd, no more travelling, no more roadtrips... So it's time to look back. Therefor, the following blog will come to you in 9 parts. 1. There's always room for improvement. Though my english is far from bad, it needs work. A lot of work. 2. I have a good home. This may sound kind of odd, but let me explain. I see a lot of people here who have to leave and wish they could stay. Not that I blame them, because Troy is amazing. But I miss my friends, my family, my dorm,... even ... read more

I have to shut up here a lot. I'm not the type of person that ever shuts up, so it just means that I don't say what I really mean. It means that I'm being a hypocrite most of the time. That's why this blog isn't very full either. I'm afraid I might insult someone. So many people are reading this & so many different nationities, that there's always someone who could get insulted by what I say. Because I know all of you, back home - the only time you think I'm funny is when I'm actually being mean. So that's why I have to write this blog in an "So then we went to panama city beach & then we rode on jetski's & then I swam with dolphins"-kinda style. I did do all ... read more

Since the last time I wrote, we went to a zoo. It was completely different from Belgium zoo's, starting with the fact that most animals were just held in cages. The monkey were said to have a sugar & diabetes problem... Which isn't hard if you are going to feed them marshmellows, chips & cola as a way to entertain the audience. You know the scene when Dudley Dursley was knocking on the snake's window saying "MOVE STUPID!"? I guess he should have been an American because apparently that is what they do. Anyway. I love monkeys, tigers & lions so I was happy to be there. I proved that I wasn't too chicken to hold a snake, so that's a good thing I guess? + There's were no ostriches. Good things happen every day! Last ... read more

I know all of you are waiting for a report on the Alabama-people, but that's not what I want to talk about today. I want to talk about Asian people. Why on earth asian people? Well, because there are a lot of them. Not just in the world, but, you know, here. I would guess about 80% of the international students are Asian. Now, I don't know if most of you know this, but I never "got" asian people. Don't ask me why, I don't know. I didn't have anything against them, but for some reason I could never imagine liking them either. I would have never voluntarily travelled to China, Japan, South-Korea either. Like I said, I don't know. The people and/or culture just didn't interest me. (I love chinese food though, but that's different. ... read more

So parties are quite different here. I mean, I've only been to one, but I was told this was quite standard. So. First we met up at the dormroom of the french guys (who else?), but it quickly got crowded, people started telling us the cops might show up if we tried staying in that room with 29 people. The girls sighed with relief, the guys started cursing because they didn't want to leave yet. But the next stop was a fraternity house, apparently a new fraternity in Troy, and the only one that was open to international students. The frat houses are huge. I put some pictures of them on facebook, well, about 20 people live in them. That's all. We asked what you were supposed to do to join the frat.. Turns out - ... read more
