When the invitation to Hector (our Hector's namesake) and Melissa's wedding came it was an easy decision to say yes we're coming! We met Hector in Nepal about 8 years ago and this was the perfect excuse to go and visit. The trip was unforgettable and for that we say a huge thank you to Hector and his family and friends for making us feel so welcome and really laying on the red carpet treatment! The practicalities of getting to Tampico are a little challenging - 27 hours journey time, 3 flights and fortunately only one melt down - (Heidi in Mexican customs as she didn't press the button in the elevator)! Actually, the kids were pretty good on the flights, and we arrived fairly fresh to our first hotel in Tampico - with Hector checking ... read more

When I finally got off the bike at the hotel in Tampico, I was on the verge of dehydration and drenched in sweat. The temperature had been in the high 30's since my departure from La Pesca at 8 AM. I refuse to ride without my gear on so I am quite an oddity out here. I will admit that when riding to dinner or somewhere local, I refrain from wearing my riding gear (other than my helmet of course which is always on my head). After I got checked in, I quickly removed heavy jacket and riding pants and headed straight for the pool. I then got myself a drink and retired to the room to catch up on my email, etc. As I lay in the comfort of my air conditionned room, I looked ... read more

México has a variety of places. Some are very tropical, while others are very dry. But in southern México you’ll find very amazing places, such as Cancun in Quintana Roo where you definitely will forget all pressures or any kind of problems. Its beaches are really gorgeous in which you could spend a lot of time with your friends. For example, you can take a rest, play sports in the sand like volleyball or football, do aerobics in water, ride in a boat and even practice extreme sports. Also, it has a beautiful vegetation with colorful flowers and large and old trees. In addition, if you visit Cancún you should try typical dishes like guacamole, steak, seafood and of course tacos. There are many places to go eat; in some places food is too expensive but ... read more

TRIP TO GUANAJUATO (Final draft) One year ago, I traveled to Guanajuato with my partners from the school. It was the best trip of all because I went with some of my best friends. This trip was organized by the Engineer Georgina, and the objective was to visit some of the most important mines in this city. Guanajuato is a city situated in the middle of the country in Mexico; it is beautiful and is a important city of Mexico’s history, and it has some of the most important mines in the country because these mines exploit a lot of minerals like carbon. In this city the people can do many things like visit the museum of mummies, the Cristo Rey of Cubilete. Another place that people can to visit is the viewpoint of the monument ... read more

lf you are thinking of taking a vacation to forget the stress and leave your job for a while, you can choose a quiet city full of history and beautiful places around it. I can recommend you a place where the weather ¡s fresh and sunny all day and where you can visit a great zoo. This city is Morelia. Morelia is in Michoacan state located in the Pacific coast of Mexico. This city is full of old buildings in its downtown and, although it has a lot of churches with amazing paintings, the principal breathtaking building is the cathedral that is located in the middle of the principal square. Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz told us there was no place like home, but she obviously was not the travel lover that I am. I have always loved to travel and visit new places, and one of my new "home away from homes" is now Tampico, Mexico. Tampico is located in Tamualipas, Mexico, only about 7 hours from the border with the US. Tampico has gorgeous beaches with clear water, a variety of attractions from crocodiles to local taco stands and an amazing mix of Mexican and American culture. By the time you have arrived at your hotel in Tampico, you will have already noticed the interesting blend of American companies such as Walmart, TGI Fridays and Kentucky Fried Chicken, and small privately owned businesses. For any US-er, this is actually a good way to ... read more

April 1, Wednesday, While getting ready to pack up, I discovered the bike cover to have a coating of that cling-on dust. I couldn't shake it off, so I stuffed it up with the dusty side against itself and figured I'd wash it clean at the next opportunity. I'm just glad I covered the bike or the dust would have been coating the bike instead. The whole hotel was coated with the stuff, I pity the guys that have to clean up from that. One was already wiping down all the exterior walls of the place. After some fruit and coffee for breakfast we were on the road by 9:30. The southbound road from Soto la Marina to Tampico was very uneven. Some spots were fine, others had sink hole sections along the side, some big ... read more

Gulf Coast: 12th July - 21st July From Victoria, We took the bus to Tampico on the Gulf Coast. The buses we had got so far in Mexico were very comfortable, with reclining seats and clean toilets and were also quite cheap. When we arrived in Tampico, we caught a bus into the Centro to try and find a hotel. The one we tried first was called Hotel Capri and had rooms available that were pretty cheap so we checked in. It wasn't luxurious but it would do for the two nights we were going to be there. We went out for a walk around the central plaza which was typical of most Mexican towns. This is where lots of locals come to sit and chat or stroll around. Generally there is a church on one ... read more

Hey y'all! I hope life is treating you well wherever you are! 24 hours ago I was looking out at the Gulf of Mexico, letting the saltwater tickle my toes, and enjoying some great fish empanadas... "We should travel this weekend..." --that's pretty much how this all started... James suggested we take a weekend trip, because he doesn't want to go back to Australia having regretted staying in Monterrey every weekend this semester. Soooo, Christin, James and I went back to my place, looked through the Lonely Planet Guide book and checked out a few places at the recommendation of our most recent mesero (waiter). We looked at Real de Catorce, Zacatecas, Tampico... Since none of us had yet been to the BEACH in Mexico, we decided to travel to Tampico, which is located in the ... read more
