We drove up to Niagara Falls, NY after picking up our truck at the Newark Airport. We hit the park around 4pm, which was actually really fast time since we didn't even leave Newark until after noon. The park on the US side is state run which really suprised us. We were expecting it to be a National Park. We were a bit disappointed by it. We drove through it once before we found parking to just get a lay of the land, and it just seemed a bit commercialized. Before you are even completely through the park, you run into a section of cheap food places and gifts and it feels a bit like the area right outside the gates at Yellowstone. They could do so much more with the area that they have, if ... read more

Quiet relaxing day, watched England play Trinidad & Tobago drove down to Niagara Fall with empty car (no petrol). Helen was trying to give advice on how to conserve petrol/gas - slow acceleration, shouldn’t be going over 50mph. BUT instead the car was accelerating high than normal and speed was well over 80mph. We made it to the petrol station, but we’re pretty sure it was running on fresh air. So finally arrived at Niagara at 10pm highly recommended at night with all its multi-coloured lights, and this is what we saw (see picture). Dropped into casino, which reminded us of Vegas. Got home about 2am, then got up a 5am to catch a 7am flight to Calgary. ... read more

Since Mat of course also wanted to see the most famous falls on earth, I visited the Niagara again a week after the first visit. However, we decided to also spend two nights here, so we would have time to see a bit more than only the falls. Mat's hours and hours of search online paid off by the way, we had a really nice room for the money we paid for it, so much better than the hostel in Toronto. This time we were a lot luckier with the weather, no rain at all, only sunshine! Amazing how much nicer things look with some sun... The pictures of the 2nd time Niagara turned out to be a lot nicer too.. What was really cool is that we got to see the city Niagara at the ... read more

The Final Destination Our final destination on the Erie Lakeshore Trek, which unintentionally put us here on Easter weekend. Plenty of Hacidic Jews, Indians, and other non-believers sharing the experience. A perfect couple of days plus the benefits of being HHonors Silver at the time, which justified benefits not typically found at American properties. A little cool but we had wonderful weather . . . The Fallsview Hilton The pictures are much more impressive than the view let's on to, though we did have a great view. The suite had a great jacuzzi pass-through bathroom that gave views even while sitting in the bathroom. Despite it being a holiday weekend, this place was hopping with the indoor pool mobbed by kids, makes you wonder how the place is on a busy season. Also, when you consider ... read more

Day 7: April 12 - Toronto, Niagara Falls Accommodation: Global Backpackers So here I was in Canada. I figured I’d get my Niagara Falls tour over first off just in case I ran out of time later on and missed out. The bus picked me up from the hostel and drove about 1½ to 2 hours on a freeway down to the town nearby to the falls. I couldn’t believe how touristy it was, and all the prices were displayed in US and Canadian dollars seeing it was so close to the border. First stop was Niagara’s observation tower, the Skylon. There was a barrel in the foyer which a daredevil named Dave Munday had travelled in while going down the falls, and he survived. Some people will do anything for fame. Anyway, it was a ... read more

November 29th to December 1st - At around 11pm on November the 28th I caught a Greyhound bus to Niagra Falls. The trip was very long (approx 8 hours). When I arrived on the US side of the falls it was very early and still dark outside. SO I sat in Denny's and had some breakfast. At around 7.30am I decided that I could wait no longer and I headed towards the falls. It was a very bad idea... there I was with my friggin massive bag over my shoulder and my crappy umbrella and it was pouring with rain. I got absolutely saturated!! I couldn't even see the falls because it was so overcast. Not in the best of spirits I decided to cross to the Canadian side. I had to walk over this bridge, ... read more

Day three-oh-seven It's Eve of All Hallow's Eve Time for some chocolate! I happened to look in my calendar today and noticed I've been travelling about for three hundred and seven days now. I've been away from home so long, or rather I've been travelling around for so long now that I'm just used to being on the road. I can't believe it's been 10 months. I guess you could say the days are beginning to meld into one. Ahh! Yup, everyday is a Saturday. haha I remember those first few days in Tam Ky when we were just sort of waiting around because there really wasn't any orientation going on and there wasn't much else to do. I remember thinking the days were just dragging and I had almost a whole year ahead of me ... read more

Very early start Going to Niagara Falls That's lots of water! Well, I managed to get up early, wash up, pack up and even had a sit down breakfast. Even taking my time I had plenty of time on my hands to browse the aisles at the grocery store and wait for my train. Being 7:30/7:45 in the morning at the grocery store who'd think that there'd be a line up to check out? lol I guess I didn't have on my "angry, don't disturb me or sit beside me" face on this morning. First I was in the line up to get on the train and a guy asked me if I knew Mandarin. Nope, sorry. Well are you going to NYC? Nope, sorry. He was looking for someone to escort his mom to NYC ... read more
