Day three-oh-seven
It's Eve of All Hallow's Eve
Time for some chocolate!
I happened to look in my calendar today and noticed I've been travelling about for three hundred and seven days now. I've been away from home so long, or rather I've been travelling around for so long now that I'm just used to being on the road. I can't believe it's been 10 months. I guess you could say the days are beginning to meld into one. Ahh! Yup, everyday is a Saturday. haha I remember those first few days in Tam Ky when we were just sort of waiting around because there really wasn't any orientation going on and there wasn't much else to do. I remember thinking the days were just dragging and I had almost a whole year ahead of me to see some of the World. Now I only have a couple of weeks or so left before I close that gap and "complete" my circumnavigation around the globe. Wow.
So much to reflect upon and so much to look forward to and so much I have to do when I get home. First of all is the prep for the Dunbar Craft
Fair. Unpack. Laundry. Organize all the stuff I mailed home. My mail...I heard there is a huge pile of magazines waiting for me. (I didn't realize I subscribed to so many magazines!) Scrapbooking. Eventually I'd like to organize all my stuff which in turn hopefully means a more organized life...or not. haha. There’s so much to do yet so little time to do it all. Plus I can't wait to get back to volunteering with Guides...actually, the Pathfinders.
Anyhoo, today I started off with a leisurely morning and then an indulgent all-u-can eat brunch and talked on the phone before heading out to the Whirlpool and then 10,000 Buddha's Buddhist Temple. I guess with the end of daylight savings time and our clocks moving back an hour, it seemed like I got up super early. lol But that's okay because it gave my hair a chance to dry before going outside.
The Whirlpool which is north of the Horseshoe Falls is actually pretty close to where my hostel is located. So I walked to the lookout point where incidentally the Aero Car is also located. But I didn't want to pay for the 10 minute ride across the
gorge where the Niagara River bends and saved my $10 and just enjoyed the view of the swirling waters from the sidelines. A woman I met up there said that at other times of the year there is even more water swirling about. That's what I was hoping to hear since it didn't seem all that spectacular to me. I mean sure there was a lot of rushing waters but I guess my over active imagination was expecting a little more. But don't get me wrong because it was still a pretty spectacular sight to see.
I stopped by the tables that were set up by the parking lot by the Whirlpool since they were facing the sun. It felt nice to be sitting in the sun and not burning up to a crisp at the same time. While chillaxing in the sun I took a little snack break...gotta make my bag lighter for the trip back to Toronto. haha. I was thinking about it last night when I couldn't fall asleep because my two roommates were either snoring or moaning in their sleep, that I have a few things to do when I get back to Toronto. Most importantly a real load of laundry and some grocery shopping for my 30+ hour trip to Winnipeg. I'm sure the time will pass by alright since I have made sure to have plenty to read, eat, cross-stitch and write. I can't believe that I'm almost in the Prairies. I've contacted Marnie from the Winnipeg lab where I was working last year (well not in Winnipeg but at the main lab in BC) and we plan on meeting up when I'm in town. As per usual, I haven't really looked into what I'll see and do while in Winnipeg but I do look forward to some "down time" since the more I think about the week I arrive home, the crazier it seems like it's gonna be...but that's okay. I'm sure it'll all work out and I'll stay somewhat sane. lol
Once again I'm really off topic. After my snack break, I stopped off at a few souvenir shops and also to this glassblowing shop. Simply amazing. Shonae said the glass reminded her of her time in Venice and all of the amazing glassblowers from there. Once more, reason for me to go to Italy! If the glass wasn't so darn heavy and breakable I might have considered making a purchase. I also made a stop at the ten Thousand Buddha's Temple to see some of the 10,000 Buddha's. Hey, I wasn't about to count all of them! haha It wasn't all that impressive there but I did take some photos since I wanted to play around with the macro feature on my camera.
The rest of my afternoon was pretty chilled out - reading, sort of watching TV and chatting with fellow hostellers. You know the usual chillaxing type activities you do while at a hostel. Sunday nights there is usually a drum jam session so I may check it out. I think I heard someone say this morning that they were going to carve some pumpkins tonight as well. Sounds like some fun going down at the hostel! But I shouldn't stay up too late since I've gotta be up and at the train station around 6AM. Yikes!
The tam tam jam session was cool to watch. I sure wish I had some rhythm...I would have stayed out longer but I was getting tired (perhaps combination of the time change and all of that fresh air I got in the afternoon.) So I retired pretty early. Oh yeah, they had a bit of trouble getting the fire going. Step in Guider Bonnie to the rescue. lol
