We had visited Vancouver some years back on a tour which included a cruise along Inside Passage and at the end we spent several days in Vancouver, so this heygo tour brought back memories of the time we walked from our hotel to Stanley Park. Stanley Park was created in 1888 and is the oldest park in the city of Vancouver, spanning 1,000-acres, it’s the third largest public park in North America and today with Moises it was only possible to discover just part of this wonderful area. The 28 km Seaside Greenway is an uninterrupted pathway, including the Stanley Park Seawall which we walked along during our tour with magnificent views across the water to the city. What everyone wanted to see was the famous totem poles and Moises ended the tour in front of ... read more

9th April & 27th May with http://www.heygo.com Yoho National Park lies on the western slopes of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Vertical rock walls, waterfalls and dizzying peaks draw visitors from around the world. With exceptional hiking and sightseeing, the park offers a unique glimpse of Canada’s natural wonders, from the secrets of ancient ocean life to the power of ice and water.Field has developed into a tight-knit family community of fewer than 200 people from all corners of Canada, many of whom arrived in the area with skis in tow and couldn't bring themselves to leave. The village artisans, whether their medium is sound, clay, food, or film, have found Field to be the perfect place to hone their craft. An 1871 agreement to bring the province of British Columbia into the Confederation of Canada set ... read more

Back in July last year we decided that it would not be safe for us to leave Canada (no explanation needed.) Vancouver Island was the obvious choice with its mild winter weather. We picked 5 accomorations in 4 locations over the 15 weeks of our getaway. There are 3 panoramas at the start. They scroll automatically after about 5 seconds. The first trip I ever took was at four years of age, on foot, alone. It took a long time for them to realize I was gone, but this was the fifties when kids were put out like laundry, tossed about by the wind, then brought in again. Like any journey, it began with the first step, but after that I had to wing it. My arithmetic skills were simply not up to the task. Instead, I concentrated on my feet marching along the sidewalk in black Maryjanes. One. Two. Three. Four. I remember the trudge as if it happened yesterday. There was a busy intersection, broad as the mighty Mississippi, and a large grassy field with a playground. The jungle gym shimmered in the sun and I was tempted to stop at the swings. On ... read more

Hi from Canada. Covid. Well THAT was a year wasn't it? I hope this blog finds you all healthy & safe. With the kind of job I have, I spent most of the 2020 pandemic just trying to stay sane. Optimistic me faithfully followed protocol & restrictions with the hopes of some normal future after the vaccine. Pessimistic me ran apocalyptical scenarios while stockpiling canned goods & toilet paper. I didn't dare dream of any future international travels. It just didn't feel right. Sequestered mainly to work and home, I was still able to sneak off and do day hikes around my hometown of Chilliwack on a rare day off. When late April approached, I knew I had to start preparing the family farm for the season. I quickly realized that my little “hobby” would become ... read more

Finally! The last entry of our blog on our train trip across Canada. Jasper to Prince Rupert (7/7/19) From Jasper we took a side trip by train to Prince Rupert, British Columbia on the Pacific Coast. What was different about this leg of our train trip was that it was out and back - 2 days to Prince Rupert, and 2 days return to Jasper. Also different was the fact that the train had no sleeping cars, and so stopped overnight about half way in Prince George, where we had to find our own accommodations. With not a great food selection on board, we picked up some rolls, sandwich fillings and snacks to take with us. Luckily when we turned in our car we didn't get charged for the windshield scratches which existed when we rented ... read more

US borders to Mexico and Canada are closed until at least September 21. The borders have been closed since March 18. We are relatively fortunate here in the US to have not one, but two international borders. Both Canada and Mexico present entirely different border crossings. Those of you in Asia, Europe, or Africa may not realize the differences. The border crossing from Southern California into Mexico is relatively easy. It can be done on foot, since it is best to leave your car on the US side. Once past immigration, just take a cab into Mexico, usually Tijuana or the airport. Coming back can be a hassle, particularly during shift changes and rush hour. Avoid the early morning and late evening rush caused by people who commute daily to and from Mexico to the US. ... read more

This has got to be the weirdest situation we’ve ever found ourselves in, eh? As global citizens, we gotta do our part. Stay home. Practice safe distancing. Wash our hands. Remain calm. Be respectful. Help neighbours. For me, it all started when a very stern looking Justin Trudeau stared into the camera and said, "...and to those Canadians abroad, it's time to come home now." Our virile Prime Minister's expression told me he might know something I didn't. But what if you have two official homes? Should I stay or should I go? To be honest Justin, I’d much rather stay in Mexico and wake up to glorious sunshine. Decision: Hunker down, see what happens. A month in and things were good in Cabo. No reported Covid19 cases. Then a plane load of American college students ... read more
