An out of order post that I forgot to post for JULY 1: 140 years ago to this day (July 1), Canada was established as a self-governing country. What this meant for us, is a day off, so we hastily packed, bought a road map and hit the highway to take the first of hopefully many road trips in our new car. We decided that we wanted to climb some rock, of course, but the forecast for Squamish was decidedly wet, and we wanted to broaden our horizons a little. We decided we would hit the highway and head up towards Lillooet, leading us a/past many scattered climbing crags, b/further inland and away from the rain. We left from my work on Saturday evening and drove up past whistler. This was our first fleeting encounter ... read more

Current mood: complacent July 9th This morning i called for a cab to take us to the bus depot to catch a 7:30 bus, this was at 6:45... by the time 7:15 came around i was severely pissed that it stil hadnt arrived. we walked to the Macs (cornerstore) where there was a vacant one so we caught that. we arrived in time to purchase tickets and wait in a long line with the feeling that there wouldnt be enough room for us to get on. luckily there were 2 buses n we just fit. as soon as the bus left the depot it began to rain. it rained all the way to Banff, then as we got closer to Lake Louise the sun came out. Thank god! i was wanting to hike this day so ... read more

today is my last full day in whistler for 2 weeks. decked out in a mini n a tee i headed out side with nadine to discover it was raining! gah! seriously whats with the rain? anyway moving along we caught the bus to the village n walked to the library. wearing thongs while walking along muddy roads results in a nice pattern of mud on the back of your legs... attractive much? at the library i found u can hire 20 books for 3 weeks... so exciting so i got a few novels to keep me occupied n picked one book called "the wisdom of wilderness" it is such a cool book. im only about 1/3 of the way through but its very philosophical about the effect nature has upon oneself. the author writes about ... read more

Current mood: lethargic Last night Nadine n Jen N began the night, and I helped Nadine finish it. in fact nadine still hasnt been to bed yet, crazy girl! Nadine came back from her escapades with Jen to tell me that i HAD to go out n live coz there was no point in my even being in Whistler...true... so i got dressed n Nadine made us all pink lemonades to take to Dave's (tuckshop lady). As the night progressed filled with ridiculously loud rap (the unit was shaking!) we consumed more n more alcohol until Dave had the idea that we needed to live so we should go n camp beside the lake... home to cougars n bears.. literally!!! after saying no like a bazillion times over i finally agreed! wooh for me! we ... read more

Two days ago I decided to pack the bags for one more roadtrip in B.C. So, along with JP I trekked to the Pacific Central bus station at 5am and caught the greyhound to Whistler. It's about a 2 hour drive so we arrived around 8am because we hit a bit of traffic. The first thing on the agenda was to get some breakfast so we asked a front desk agent at our hotel for some guidance and were off. Just outside the restaurant I saw a bear. I was in the middle of saying 'it looks sooo real' when all of a sudden it moved. Yeah, a black bear was about 10 metres away from me and I didn't even know it was real hahaha. I scrambled for the camera but before I could ... read more

Hi everybody! I have to say, Whistler is amazing. Well, the first day I just relaxed and walked around. On Tuesday I went the first time in my life downhill biking - and I love it. I think I will extend my stay here for another week. On the first day on the bike I took a guide who showed me how to ride that kind of bikes and he also gave some other advises, for example how to jump. Since then I am riding with friends I met here or alone. On my 3rd day I also had my first crash. Enjoy the pictures in the gallery… That is all for the moment. There is not a lot to say, moreover are the pictures much more impressive then when I write. Cheers, Daniel ... read more

Current mood: despondent ok so i started another day crying... i was woken by my phone ringing today, n i freaked out coz i thought i was late for work, but it was mike. all i can say was that it was so good to hear his voice. its funny how u forget the little things about people that just make you appreciate them even more. turns out it was only 7am so i tried to go back to sleep till 10 but i couldnt. i was really homesick yesterday n am still today. Ian told me yesterday that he was leaving to go home. im so cut! he's the nicest houseman n always has a chat to u n now both he n Nick are gone. So that got me to thinking how soon enough ... read more
