Woolly says – I’m really enjoying camping on the beach, the nights are a bit chilly but it is lovely and peaceful. We have just under a week before we can move back to our temporary accommodation (still waiting for news on our permanent apartment!) and rather than move further down the coast towards Alanya we thought we would take the opportunity of exploring some of the sights that are closer to Antalya itself. With that in mind and a picnic packed we set off in Ollie for a new adventure. Woolly says – with only twenty kilometres to go we glanced at the town of Manavgat as we drove through, quite pretty with palms trees and streams flowing down the central reservation, lots of traffic though. Ollie was soon on the smaller roads and pounding ... read more

Our trip covering some of the East of Turkey has bought quite a few surprises not to mention some incredible sights, Woolly thought it would be a good idea to do a summary of the trip and we agreed thinking it might keep him quiet for a few days! Woolly says – So cutting! The East was very different and gave us a variety of problems and some wonderful destinations Camping proved to be problematic with many campsites not existing and I would certainly recommend contacting camps by email before planning to stay at them. Prices are cheap ranging between 25TL and 40TL (approximately £8.10 and £12.90 GBP) in comparison to European sites but be prepared for very basic facilities with only a few camps having washing up areas at all. Several we stayed on where ... read more

With hats and hoodies on we were ready to go. Leaving the town behind we quickly picked up the signs for Antalya, not quite our destination but on the right track. Woolly says – we were back into the mountains on lovely turny roads which took us through rocky crags and formations, the views were as stunning as we have grown accustomed to and as each bend passed we marvelled more at the scenes in front of us. Jo spotted a sign for Tinazepe Cave, sounded like a plan! Remind me in the future to ignore her! As it was just off the road it seemed like a good idea and it would break the journey up. Being Turkey’s longest cave I thought it was a must. It Covers 22KM of tunnels with only 1580 metres ... read more

The sun continues to shine, rain however has arrived and Woolly and I had a lovely hour watching the waiters pulling in chairs and tables with the rain bouncing off the pavement and developing rivers into the bar areas. Half an hour later and everything was back outside with the water disappearing under the bright sunlight again. The showers never last long…… Woolly says – the rain is even warm and if I was the type that wanted to shower I would have only needed some soap! The most exciting part of the week was being able to see our belongings again! Having waved them goodbye on 24th July I was so happy to greet them on Turkish soil. We had been told that they would arrive sometime next week but then Jo received an email ... read more

Every day here is so glorious, we feel lucky to wake to sunshine everyday especially when we look at the weather reports for the UK. Woolly says – My tan is coming along nicely and I feel in the best of spirits. The last of the paperwork is now heading to customs so our belongings might actually be joining us soon. I found out lots about the water system in Turkey this week after we had been told that one of tanks on the roof was leaking – not the news we wanted. But it did give me an opportunity to explore the top of the building. All of the apartments have two big tanks and a solar panel so instant hot water is assured. Our bottom tank had developed a leak round the seal, I ... read more

I pulled by backpack on and walked down Leda street to the "border crossing" I entered North Lefkosi and hopped in a taxi for the 30 minute trip to Kyrenia. Kyrenia has a picture perfect harbour surrounded my a maze of alleyways full of bars, hotels and shops and is a great place to stay. The first night I had a room in the maze like back streets which was old but nice and enjoyed a great traditional fish dinner, the second night I moved to a room on the harbour with lovely view. The next day it was time to leave so l packed up and headed to the airport catching my flight to Anatalya in Turkey, on arrival I headed to passport control , there must have been at least 500 hundred people waiting ... read more

And so we sit and wait, our container is still at the docks and having sent a variety of documents and paperwork off…… Woolly says – What Jo means is that having sent the documents and paperwork to the wrong address customs are now trying to find the missing envelope – she is such a silly. Our week has passed with dips in the pool and sea and an occasional cup of coffee or ice cream on the harbour watching the huge rigged party ships weaving back into port with their green hewed tourists on board. Throughout the day and night we hear the calls to prayer, it’s a soothing sound, and as first one Imam then another and another joins in the call the sound streams across the buildings and flows down the streets. Mosques ... read more

Wild nights!!! No, not the party type wild nights but the very windy type wild nights. Friday and Saturday nights have been extremely windy, and even though we are settled into good moorings the boat moves around a lot and the a couple of boats had to work on their ropes during the night. Friday night was spent in a bay that had an old castle/fort up on the entrance to the bay. First signs of settlement are from the 10th century BC. What we climbed to and walked around the whole lot was from the 3rd /2nd century BC. Amazing sites but there are so many of them. We are nearly down to Marmaris on our way back south and I have only two more nights aboard. Still finding neat bays and places to stop ... read more

Well, we have decided to head back down the coast as the winds have been a bit unpredictable and we don't want to be caught battling head winds and having to get to Marmaris by next week when the boat goes on the hard for the winter. I will be leaving the boat Tuesday next week to start the journey home. So, only 6 days to go. It has once again been fantastic. We sailed up as far as Knidos which is a work in progress archilogal site, with a nice bay to spend the night in. A very big site dating back as far as the 4th century BC. Lots of people working on it from 6 in the morning but they don't work from late morning through late afternoon, during the heat of the ... read more

Well we ended up staying in Selimiye all day Saturday as Martin wanted to do a bit of work on the boat and it was about time we had a kick back day. So we hoisted Martin up the mast, swam, ate, a bit of walking and sleeping. I have developed a liking for apple tea and find it very refreshing so drink a few of those during the day.. Robert made a friend in Pepe the lab and became quite well photographed when they were doing their diving tricks off the jetty. On one occasion they were set to go, Robert said yes, and tricked poor Pepe into diving in while he just stood there and then every one stood and laughed. Pay back, a couple of times later, all set and Robert dives in but ... read more
