Teddy Leaving Quarantine
Teddy just about to leave quarantine with myself (Jenny) & Jilly. He has a fantastic life ahead of him. TEDDY THE ALBANIAN PUPPY RESCUE STORY CONTINUED.......
TEDDY THE ALBANIAN PUPPY COMES OUT OF QUARANTINE
Teddy came out of quarantine on Saturday 4th July 2009 'Teddy Independence Day'.
When we found him and rescued him at 10 weeks old he was in a dreadful condition, in fact nearly dead. He has now finished his 6 months in quarantine. He has been happy throughout as he has known no difference.
Everything is a new experience for Teddy including when we took him on his first walk on the day he came out. He is a totally oposite dog to how we found him. He is no longer the frightened, starved, ill little pup that we rescued. He is now totally free from sarcoptic mange, he is no longer frightened but confident, happy, energetic and trusting. He is well nourished & in full health. He has grown to be much bigger than we had ever anticipated which you can see in his photos!
Teddy has now got a fantastic future ahead of him but what about the other cats & dogs in Albania? My friend Jilly & I decided that we wanted Teddy to fly
Teddy In The Quarantine Grounds
Teddy getting ready to leave for his new life, again he is posing for the camera with Jenny & Jilly! the flag for all the other stray cats and dogs living on the streets in Albania.
When we rescued Teddy there were no animal shelters/sanctuaries in the whole of Albania so we had no option but to bring him to England. After much research we have found that Albania's first and only animal rescue shelter has started in the Albanian capital Tirana by a Swiss lady called Maria who married an Albanian man and has gone to live in Albania. She was horrified that there was no animal welfare in Albania so she wanted to do something to help the large number of strays and has now set up this shelter.
The shelter is vital as it keeps the stray animals from being shot which is what they do to the strays in Albania, it is absolutely dispicable that a Country in Europe is allowed to do this. A more effective way to keep the number of strays down is to neuter the animals which the shelter is doing but obviously this is very expensive and they do not have government funds to do this. We have written to the Albanian Government several times but had
Teddy Outside Quarantine Kennels
Teddy Enjoying having his photo taken with Jenny & Jilly outside the Quarantine Kennels no reply but we will continue to lobby the Government as they need to invest the money in neutering rather than shooting the animals and also know that this is unacceptable way to treat their animals and tourists will not accept this.
We have contacted the WVS (Worldwide Veterinary Service) which is an English charity that supports international animal shelters. We have told them about the situation in Albania and how Maria's Shelter is the first to be set up there. The WVS are now helping by sending out regular parcels of animal medicines free of charge.
Jilly & I are now fundraising for the shelter as they struggle financially to buy food for the animals and at present can only afford to feed them on bread, noodles and bones.
We have have been offered a large donation of pet food to send out to the Albanian shelter. Every September in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, England, there is a pet food motorbike rally which is organised by a great animal lover Sid Rogers. 3000 approx motorbikes slowly ride through the city in procession. The public line the streets and give pet food to them as they

A Haulage company going to Greece that have kindly offered to transport the pet food to Greece then my friend and I will fly out there and transport the food to Albania. This will all take place in mid October 2009.
We are appealing for money donations, pet food, waterproof warm dog coats, foldable pet carriers & animal medicines off the public and also off pet shops, supermarkets, vets & businesses that will get sent out to Albania. We also need any donations of Bric a Brac for us to sell at carboot sales and fetes to raise funds for the shelter.
We also are appealing for anybody that is Albanian and has contacts in Albania that may be able to help the shelter to get in touch with us please.
