So we're back in Holland after a fairly mental week.
Friday we said goodbye to Matt, Jake and Alana and travelled to Renate's party in Utrecht, we arrived at 2am and didn’t get to bed till about 730am.
After catching the train back to Nijmegen on Saturday Melissa had to work, so Reece and I went to see "In Brugges" which turned out to be really good. Then we went for a drink on the terrace and went into "the foyer" the special beer pub where Melissa sometimes works. The bartender Gil introduced us to a few of his friends and after a couple more drinks we were off the Billabong (Aussie pub) for another good night, they even played Aussie music this time.
Sunday we went into Amsterdam to meet Emile (one of Melissa’s really good friends) after a few drinks we went for a stroll around the red light district then had to race back to catch the last train back to Nijmegen.
Monday was when the adventure really began, Reece and I packed our stuff up and jumped on a train to France to see the tour. The trip almost made a turn for the
worse when at 1 in the morning the conductor of our connecting night train said there was no space and we weren’t allowed to board the train, so we walked a few cars down got on and waited. The conductor came back at went mental at us and 2 Norwegian guys we met who were in the same position. Like so mental to be any crazier he would have had to punched us in the head, but he didn’t speak English so we ignored him and eventually the train got moving and we were on our way to Paris.
Tuesday morning we missed out connection in Paris which made us a bit late to the tour but we still managed to be in Cholet for the time trial by 12:30. The day was really cool we jumped a fence into the athletes area and got to look at all the team bikes and walk amongst the team cars. Reece even had a chat to Robbie McEwen and we saw Cadel warming up. After Cadel had finished we went back to the train station, we were planning on heading to Spain but at the last minute decided that Switzerland was
Us and renate
Partying in Utrecht a better option. So we took a Night train to Geneva. On the train we met two girls and had a chat, they planted the idea of skiing in our heads and so we decided we were heading to Zermatt to ski beneath the Matterhorn.
Once we made it to Zermatt we found out you can’t ski after 1:30pm so we had an arvo to kill and a night to spend in the fields on our tarp. We spent alot of time taking pictures of the Matterhorn and then went out to the pub. After spending all our beer money we decided it was a good idea to break a 50 euro note and from then on it was going to be a big night. We made it back to the "campsite" at about 3am. The cloudless night was great for looking at the stars but it got bloody cold and really dewey. We got up at 730 bloody cold and feeling a bit rough, but it was up the mountain for our first summer skiing experience, and bakers 4th real day on skis. The snow was a bit hard in the early but softened up really well and
we had a great time, the mini park, half pipe and big air jumps were awesome fun. Baker won move of the day (see pics below) I would be really cool if everyone commented and said whether or not they think he landed it, I’ll put up the final photo in a couple of days.
After an awesome day on the snow we boarded the train back to Nijmegen with some killer sunnies tans, we got back just after midnight and called it an evening. Then Friday we were off to Amsterdam again to stay with Emile and party in Amsterdam. We went to a place called the Milkweg (Milky Way) it was a bit slow to start but in the end it was a really fun night. After an interesting sleep where I somehow slept walked out of Emile's apartment and locked myself in the stairwell for a couple of hours we got our stuff together set off for Veenendall (Melissas home town) for her birthday dinner with her family and Renate. We went to a Peri-Peri chicken restaurant, because Melissa had heard that Reece was a Nandos fan. After dinner we were off to Nijmegen for the
beginning for of the Vierdaggse, a week and a half long street party in Nijmegen. But I’ll save that all for the next blog.
