The escalators are huge-normous!
METRO has big escalators like in Washington D.C. SHOUTOUT COUSINS. Ah yes... today. Today was a nice day in Becky History. Today began early and by early I mean I rolled myself out of bed around 7:07AM to be specific. Soon after, it took me some time, longer than I expected to get dressed.
Oh yeah, and this morning I heard a woman singing which FREAKED me out because it was still dark outside and I did not want to move out of bed because I knew my host mother and man of the house were still sleeping. Who the H Heck was singing. It was a weird experience.
So I headed over to school via Bus number 205 and then the metro from budejovicka to vysehrad where my CIEE and classes are located. I initially had to sign into section B of my Czech history class and then went upstairs for add/drop which turned out to be very unsuccessful because I did not have the classes i wanted to get into pre-approved and also the line was out the door.
My first intense Czech class began at 9:30AM and I absolutely loved every minute of it not only because I felt like each word was going to
RED cheeks and a CREEPER.
I had red cheeks. Denise was creeping. be useful in my homestay/stay in Prague life.
(I wore my hair in a side braid on top today in case you were wondering)
My teachers name is BORA and there were many students in my class the I knew, including the American, Denise. She is a fond person. Bora was very nice and we began by learning how to say "I am Becky" and "I am American". Ja Jsem Becky. etc. etc.
On the first break, which was fifteen minutes long at 11:15AM, I jumped up, put on my jacket, hoping to rush out to get lunch. Denise laughed at me because this was not supposed to be our lunch break- our lunch break was really at 12:30PM. I thought CIEE was going to make us rush out with only 15 minutes.
I ate a lot of food today. During our lunch break, Denise, Vladimir (A french student), Liz, and another girl initially walked to a restaurant, the same one I went to the other day with Katie, my Czech buddy, but after we sat down, we realized we did not have enough time to eat there and we left. Besides, there were only about three things being offered on the menu because I guess they ran out of everything else. We ended up going to a small hole in the well deli where I purchased a roll of bread, crackers, and chocolate cookie things. ANNYWAYYYY...
Later our class and myself walked and took the tram to Charles University where we were collectively welcomed by a few different men who were in prominent positions. It was an honor and the building was very nice with old stonework. We took a tour of the place by the man and he was kind of hard to hear and he made me lead the way to clear everyone down the stairs which was knd of funny. There were big professor robes in the closet and Maoira thought it would be funny if she dressed in them when she arrived back to America. I concurred and chuckled three times.
Denise and I then decided I was to see her apartment then proceed to purchase coffee somewhere. Madeline and Shelia decided to meet us at the internet cafe, Fushion later in the evening. Denises apartment was beautiful and I am somewhat envious that she gets to live with a Czech buddy. That is RAD. After getting a bit lost, and stepping in dog doody (I was like "That store looks nice--SLIP ON DOODY" It was not plesant and was right in the middle of the sidewalk! Can you imagine. We had another good laugh.
Freddy (the dog) lays in my bed, then follows the man of the house upstairs everytime he goes. How hilarious.
Madeline and I left Fusion to get back to our families for dinner and we took the Tram 3. At first we went in the wrong direction but got off and right back on in the opposite direction. Madeline is so funny. A beggar man came up to us on the street with a bum hand and a hat full of coins asking us and rambling on in czech about something presumably asking for money. We looked like we didn't understand him and he was like "Do you speak english?" and Madeline said "No"... Then he said Deutch? and Madeline shook her head yes and I thought she was crazy and just joking with him because I didn't realize that Deutch was GERMAN and she DID speak German. I was laughing so hard because I thought she was only tricking him. We made it home nicely and MAMA had dinner waiting- fish and onions and POTATOS.
BOY DO I LIKE MY POTATOES!
I ate with the middle son and asked him questions like "so you live in BRNO?" and "What are you studying" I believe his answer was IT. Later Daniela helped me with my homework- (she gave me some answers don't tell BORA!) and I read phrases.
Then I spoke with my legit parents on the telephone. What a great experience to hear the voices that reared me in to being! It was great. We spoke about my experiences and I talked a little in czech so they knew this school was legitimate!
OK I MUST DEPART. love you byebye.
I think I smell better in Prague.
I love the man of the house- he told me to have sweet sleep 😊.
