Today we headed of for Llangollen (pronounced clangoclen - or thereabouts!!) Once again the Navgirl decided to give Mark's driving a test. We went on a few small roads instead of the major highways. You see with the SatNav you can choose to go to a place the fastest or the shortest... I know what you're saying... that would be about the same thing wouldn't it?... well no it isn't.... the fastest was going to be somewhere around 200 miles of traveling.... the shortest was 130 miles... which way I here you say??.... well the shortest of course.... BAD MOVE!! I think this time we actually hit some Z roads... they even had grass growing in the middle of them!! LOL.... A quick re programing of Navgirl and we headed for some of the bigger A ... read more

No ghosts and no breakfast again. But we were up early in order to head out to the docks for our ferry ride over to Wales. James was in a big hurry to beat the anticipated rush hour. We had already said goodbye to our Irish bus driver Patrick after our city tour the previous day. Today we had a new driver and bigger bus to take us to the docks. It was a good thing we had more room because everyone was now lugging a handful of new shopping bags. Because there was NO traffic on the roads this morning we arrived at the dockyard terminal much too early . As we pulled up to the front of the terminal I was amazed by the size of our ferry, Ulysses. It was as big as ... read more

PART IV We arrived at Pen y Gerrag, a four hundred year old Welsh long house, to be met by Mona our B&B hostess. It turned out that she was a great friend of Ian Woosenham’s parents so she and Howard talked golf. After Welsh cakes, sponge cake and a cup of tea Mona showed us to our room, which was a converted office away from the main house and very private. Mona recommended the Cross Keys pub in the next village, Penybontfawr, for dinner so we went off to find it later. Unfortunately they were fully booked it being a Saturday night but Howard turned on the sob story of coming all the way from Australia and they soon found us a table and a nice one at that! Linda had Welsh lamb and Howard ... read more

First of all, I want to say there should be a flag of Wales for this entry, not the UK flag. It is so cool, with the bright red dragon. So you could see it, I'm trying to put a link here and by the way you can also get a recipe for Welsh Cakes at this site and boy are they good. If we had known how good, we would have bought a lot more than we did the day we left. http://www.grossi.co.uk/wales/recipe.htm Where does the time go? And don't you get tired of hearing people say that? We had the nicest (only 1-yr old) self catered cottage in Llangollen. Self catered is like home away from home, fully furnished, including linens, pots and pans, even a nice welcome basket of goodies from the owner ... read more

It's off to Wales now Thirty-five minutes from Bath The sun shines again! Our morning start of 8:30 seemed so late! Guess I'm still used to the early morning wake ups from Australia. Plus the fact that the sun rises much earlier here now that it is summer. I had a great sleep even though I woke up several times during the night but as per usual just fell right back to sleep right away. The first time I woke up was at 00:26...I felt like I had been asleep all night! But it had only been 2 hours. LOL For a shaky metal bunk bed, it was pretty comfortable. Perhaps it was just a good mattress and not too much movement from Wai-ting down below. :) Breakfast was included with our hostel so we all ... read more
