After a little deliberation as to which direction to take we headed for Llangollen. Remind me never ever to come away without the road atlas in future. It really does challenge our abililty to plan the route to whereever we are going, The Satnav is fine except it does like to take us on roads which we would prefer not to be on. There are some exceedingly narrow roads here in Wales with wonky stone walls on either side and many blind hair pin bends. Quite often we have had to breath in in order for the vehicle coming the other way to get past. Fortunately we have only had the car to consider. A couple of roads we used went across bridges with low walls on either side which would have grabbed the Caravan if ... read more

Thursday - another day . We made the decision early to cancel our house viewings for tomorrow . We thought what's the point . Yesterdays viewers had not come back to us . We had a plan if they rang to see two houses and meet up with Sions best friend Woolly Mammoth . It was with a sadness that we cancelled the visit to Sions friend . He had been waiting two years to see his best friend . So he was disappointed . "Disappointed - I was gutted . So gutted I had to raid the fridge and eat all the strawberries and cream I found there . So gutted that I ate all the crisps and the chocolate biscuits . So gutted I refused to talk to anyone " Sion sadly ate us ... read more

Travelled from Llandudno to Liverpool. Took a trip through Llanrwst, passed Betws-Y-Coed, through Corwen were held up by two trucks with moveable bogeys carrying bases for wind turbines. On to and through one of our favourites, Llangollen, then for a lunch stop at Horseshoe Pass before heading to Widnes (Model train shop, Hattons) then to Liverpool.... read more

What a difference a week makes. This time last week the weather was pretty miserable with 4" of snow covering the ground. Spring seemed a long way off. This week the clocks have gone forward, the sun is shining and finally it does feel as if we are heading for some decent weather. We were heading for Wales to get a final hair cut before our holidays. Feet have been pampered and Gabby has her seats and table in together with some of the things we need for a holiday. First the holiday is on, then through unforeseen circumstances it was off. This week it is back on again although in a shortened form. Probably two weeks in France rather than the usual 4 weeks. We probably wont make the sun of the south rather we ... read more

There is nothing worse than being woken with a trunk in the eye, quickly followed by a paw! Woolly says – I slipped, what can I say! It did however do the trick and meant that we could set of for the days adventures. A few miles and a tight squeeze into a parking space and I left the women faffing round with money for a ticket and trotted though the bunting hung high street of Llangollen. A small town of some 3000 people it is best known for hosting the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod every July, I knew that Jo wouldn’t being able to resist mentioning the Bairds in the family again and hoped to keep that conversation for while I was napping. The town takes its name from its founding Saint, Collen, a seventh ... read more

2014 has arrived and it brings with it all those plans and hopes you have for the coming year. A time of reflection on what has gone by and an anticipation of what is to come. A time of memories and of hopes for a future full of travelling and fun. Life is settling down finally and it's time to start planning the trips for the year. The weather has been kind to us with very little wind or rain and the nights have started to draw out albeit slowly. We have been relatively lucky this year in that we had no snow in November and December and now into January still none on the horizon. Hopefully we will have none the rest of this month and through February and March. The countdown has started to ... read more

What can you say about Chirk Castle? Set in the pretty countryside near to the town of Chirk in the Ceiriog valley it is the classic heavily built squat Marcher style castle Built in the 13th century it lies low in the landscape and is pretty imposing. It is though a homely castle with a lived in feel. This is explained by the fact that although the house is owned and maintained by the National Trust it is still lived in by the "family". This shows through the furniture and fittings. The castle is approached via a long drive through the quintessential English or Welsh landscaped park. Oaks, Beeches, Chestnut and native trees fill the parkland. It is though a long walk from the main gate to the castle and a car is useful to make ... read more

This was our first bus tour and we were wondering how we would like it. We wanted to take a comprehensive tour of Great Britain but we didn’t want to negotiate the roads on the left side and deal with the heavy traffic and numerous roundabouts throughout the country. We studied options coming up with Globus, one of the top three rated United Kingdom tour companies. The timing and length of the tour was perfect and the itinerary included a complete panorama of England, Wales and Scotland. All 37 of us from the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand congregated bright and early to meet our tour guide, our bus driver and our clean, modern bus. It was a rainy, dreary morning as we boarded our home for the next 10 days, got situated in our ... read more

So much for loosing a couple of kilo before I left home; we went to the bakery to get some rolls for a healthy lunch and came out with Cornish pasties, Oggies (puff pastry meat pasties) and some cakes - again! It’s been great to hear so many people speaking Welsh. A little 3yo girl was being told off by her father for crying, amazing to think that she can understand such a complicated language. Speaking of language; Lucy came out of the bath today with pink cheeks and I asked her why she hopped out so soon? She said ‘it was too friggen hot’.Where did she pick that up from… Darren! We’ve been so lucky, it’s another lovely sunny day. The air is crisp (read cold) but the sun is warm. I’m glad it’s not ... read more

We're staying in Llangollen another night, it's just so pretty. We took a one mile walk up to an old monks abbey, Valle Crucis Abbey, from the 1200's. Half of it has fallen down from a fire but there is a section still in tact where we we able to climb upstairs to where the monks slept. ... read more
