I started work in the Duck at 7 on Chrissy eve and it is dead as for an hour or 2 (so we, me, Dougy & loura had a few sneaky voddies to try and kick the hang over) then it all starts happening. People start flockin in, then the band starts at 10 ( bloody load, v hard to here what people want) then the next thing I know it’s Christmas. But no rest for us, flat out for a few hours then we kick everyone out and the mission of cleanin up. That first Guinness (pictured) was bloody tasty & a chance to sit down. Then Veronica (the boss) says to us lets get drunk! So ... read more

We got back into Thurso on a warm, bright, sunny Friday to stop at the bank, store and the TIC. Of course we got the best weather on our last few days! We took the A9 and A99 to Ulbster and found the Whatamore Steps that I had read about in my Lonely Planet Guide. There were 318 steps that led down to an alcove which was scenic and peaceful. These were small stones and date back to 1900 BC. We were driving along the coast when we came upon a village called Lybster. It had a small lighthouse and the ... read more
