Had to run up to Aberdeen for a site visit so thought this was the perfect excuse to see a bit more of Scotland. This is the kick off for UK travel frenzy and in the space of 3 weeks have managed to fit in visits to Scotland, North England (Lake District) and Wales (Pembrokeshire). Scotland is at this stage in my journeys my favourite part of the UK for scenery. I love the drama of the highlands and sweeping moors and as each time I visit I manage to score a wild mix of blue skys and stormy weather the sky is as much part of the trip as the country itself. This trip i was joined by Daryl who amused himself for most of the Wednesday while I did my work (have a walk ... read more

So needed the rest after the three full on days we had in Paris, it was nice to get home and relax for the day. Jase, Becc & I all went to their local gym & worked out for an hour, this gym has fantastic facilities, this is what we need in Tanunda.....but it wouldnt happen. Felt invigorating just to run on the tread mill, lift weights & do floor exercises... my trainer back home would be very pleased with me. Went for coffee across the road & then back home to start packing, washing for London in 2 days time. I will then feel like I am on my way home when I arrive in London as from there we head off to New York......I feel energised, well rested & the happiest I have felt ... read more

Had the best 10 hour sleep and felt great, as yesterday the drive took alot out of me, so today was all about getting rest before I fly out to Paris tomorrow. Ready for the next instalment..........Paris Adventure with Becc should be great fun. Went with Becc to get some pampering done at the beauty salon, had a fabulous massage which I nearly fell asleep, felt well relaxed & less tense, great, all good for Paris.............Spent the day at home packing & getting ready, we have an early flight around 6.00am to fly directly out of Aberdeen to Paris, should be their in a couple of hours. Feels very weird to able to comprehend that one night you are in Scotland & within a couple of hours you arrive in Europe........ bizarre. This will be quite ... read more

Woke up and went shopping in Aberdeen with Becc for our road trip to Troon. It was another beautiful day 18 degrees, cool and cloudy. Packed bags for our four day trip to Ireland and had home-made pizzas on the back deck. Left Aberdeen around 4.00pm travelling east to west across Scotland to a suburb of Glasgow called Hamilton. The road trip was fun felt like the Griswold’s driving around for hours. Got to the Hamilton Inn Express and stayed the night. ... read more

Spent today getting packed for our road trip to Ireland for 5 days. We are driving out to the west side of Glasgow to a lttle town called Hamilton to stay overnight, then catch the ferry across to Ireland. Our dinner at The Simpsons was delightful, had to open a bottle of Moet champagne which was awesome. Jase and I tried a Scottish dish called "Cullen Skink" which was a thick, milky fish soup was okay but very filling. The rest of the meal was great and Jase's work colleague and his wife were good fun. Left the restaurant & walked & walked through the city & they took me to a typical Scottish pub called Blackfriars in the heart of the city. Had my first half pint of Ale, well it was revolting - flat, ... read more

Really daylight here from roughly 4.00am until 10.30pm at night, not that good if you are wishing to sleep fro at least 8 - 10 hours, but it could be worst. Had a great meal outside in the beautiful weather with Jase & Becc, it's so nice to be around genuine friends who love their life. They are so well rounded and honest its wonderful staying here with them and Will. He is such a little man who is independent and so cute and he has that whole Scottish accent going on, very funny. Got up to a misty, cloudy day around 18 degrees and found out that Becc had arranged for me to have an hour of pampering. Well could not say no to this, went to her local gym and had the most fantastic ... read more

Today Becc took me to my very first castle about 20 minutes outside of Aberdeen. The drive was spectacular, windy roads, forests, and a small fishing village. Arrived to this huge castle of ruins on the edge of a cliff top called Dunnottar Castle. Well breathtakingly beautiful in everyway. probably in describable, walked down a long path and a young boy had his bag pipes out playing them with gusto. Had to give him a pound for efforts. Walked around the entire castle, magnificent. Becc being Becc the photographer could not go anywhere without taking her camera. So I was her so called model for the day and she snapped everywhich angle to get some wonderful photos. Next time I will have to consider getting abit more dressed up when going sight seeing!!!! This was fantastic ... read more

Friday 10th July Onwards to the NorthEast coast Today its time to move on from Edinburgh up the the northeast coastline and eventually to the Highlands and the west of Scotland. Our stay in Edinburgh over the past week has been great and we have seen all the attractions that we wanted to from here and achieved more in family research that we could have hoped for. Our accommodation has been perfect and we will find it a bit more of a chore now unpacking and repacking more often as we go .However, being unable to arrange more home swaps before we stayed this adventure means that we just have to get used to it and try and minimise the impact as we go. Our memories of Edinburgh will be a city of charm, quiet as far as ... read more

There's no better time, there's no better place. It is what we keep telling people and its the truth! Mongolia beckons, many mysteries and unknowns are to come; all whipped up by the spirit of adventure, survival, historical power, deserts, mountains and mutton. So we've signed up, there's no going back, see you all in mongolia. First round of mutton dumplings on us! Its taken 5 months of preparation to get this far. There have been times we're its been a little hectic and when surges of wondrous excitement are replaced with groans of 'its just not possible; the more I think about it, the more can go wrong..'. The History Boys are onboard now more than ever, for this we must give thanks to our supporters and sponsors - without them we would not be ... read more
