I have now gone through almost a rite of passage here, in one day I went to a cream tea (yum! The vanilla tea and scones complemented each other quite well.) then later on hit a pub called the Lamb and Flag. I liked the L&F a lot, students conversing, and laid back environment. Managed to get myself in a conversation comparing the British Empire to American Imperialism. Oxfordshire ( the Oxford area) has some gorgeous rivers (I’d call them streams, they call them rivers) and canals, so I did a bunch of the walk/hikes around the meadows and streams, which I enjoyed a great deal. I went out to Blenheim Palace for a day. What a huge place! All the Rosenblatt’s (my mom’s large extended family for those who don’t know) could take up residence ... read more

Oxford is a cute college town, with plenty of colleges to go around. More than colleges is the number of pubs, most of which are quite old, like from the 16 and 1700's. Lots of stone walls. this is a real walking town once you get a map. I've checked out the Botanical Gardens, Carafax Tower, Christ Church College (lots of harry potter fans there, as some parts of the movies were filmed there) the canal walk and 2 markets. My tevas are getting real milage. Yesterday i snuck into Rhodes House Library for a while and parused my way throught the Pacific Section for 3 hours while it rained. That library is so well taken care of! I may try to get back in tomorow to finish reading about the pacific anti-nuclear treaty and the ... read more

Yesterday morning brought shock and fear. Sarah has to wear a suit to work. AHHHH. Of course she looks good, but that is such "real" and formal attire. I took the bus and tube to work with Sarah, then the A to Z and i went off. I decided that i could walk to coventry gardens, and it was a pleasant walk down the Thames from Temple to Embankment then i headed up inland. I found a bus tour, so i could do the cheesy tourist thing. It came with a free walking tour to see changing of the guard. the timing was right so i walked to the meeting point infront of the national gallery. Along the way i found a nice lost aussie looking for the meeting point as well, and we spent the ... read more

This is a blog to show off something beautiful in England. I visited Reena in Manchester and one day we went to the Lake District. We walked around for several hours and sat at the lake for a few more. Caught a train back to Manchester in the evening. One thing that Manchester definitely has over London is that there are lots of beautiful places only an hour or twos train journey away. London... takes one hour just to get to the M25. I really hope I've spelt Windamere correctly... it just looks wrong :( 15/09/2003 Note: I did spell Windermere incorrectly... updated now :)... read more

Greetings from sunny London (i'm serious the weather is awesome) Here i am, sitting a whole ocean away from Saratoga, with Sarah. Everything about London is awesome except for how much things cost. NYC looks cheap compared to here. Yesterday we went to markets: Portabello Road (which is right out Sarah's front door), Camden Town, and Covent Garden. At Portabello Road i got this great book to make a Feingold style scrap book, which is a good idea, since i never got around to finishing my NZ book. We also got fresh bread and yummy hummus. Mmmmm. Camden Town is totally fun. It is what the East Villiage wishes it still was. Lots of punks, ravers, 80's style mohawks, goths, and lots of other neat little shops as well. I could live there. The highlight may ... read more

It was during the 2003 heat wave, so most decisions were about getting shade or air con, including leaving during the second half of Richard III at the Globe Theatre where the umbrella men were selling paper hats, instead, to the groundlings, before heading to Westminster Chapel and so on, but I was too cheap to go to the Tower of London and some other sites, so I'll undoubtedly return someday to enjoy it all more and still probably just force down fish and chips once and then eat the wonderful Indian food the rest of the time.... read more

The long journey home was sad - I'd really got attached to life in Brisbane - the friends, places lifestyle... but time to move. Plans change, all the time sometimes huge life wrenching changes, going home or continuing travelling in Australia and then South East Asia was for me one of those choices that would lead one way or the other. I choose to use my ticket to go home, see my family and friends and then think again. I had been working on a website over the last few weeks for a company called The Cloud. It turned out that I choose to arrive in London just a few days before the launch of the entire brand. Picked up at Heathrow in a Mercedes taken to a hotel and then made my way to work... ... read more

Our eight hour overnight Coach journey from Edinburgh to London wasn’t as painful for me as for Jason and Ryan, since I took Ryan’s advice and had some of his sleeping pills. I hardly even remember having a pit stop at a Coach rest stop in the middle of the night, and I ended up with four soft chocolate bars in my pockets the next morning. According to the boys, I paid for those candy bars at the convenience store, which I have no recollection of, and that’s a good thing, because ending up a local prison while being drugged is the last thing I want to experience in any trips. Arriving at 7am in the Victoria Coach Station, most places are not open yet for the day, including the public loos. After having a quick ... read more
