To me there are two Englands. One is London, the other is the rest of it. Heres where the playdough comes into it.... London is like if you put the playdough in the middle of the table and tell the kids to go for it, everybody grabs as much as they can and starts playing with it, sculpting it and moulding it into what they want it to look like, according to their ideas and plans. Some kids dont get any playdough, while some get heaps, if your lucky someone might share and their might be some collaborating plans, but at a table full of four year olds its pretty much every man for himself. Meanwhile, there is just a blue smudge left on the table where the complete blob used to be. The part of ... read more

Some people who return from a year's travelling are glad to make it home and settle back into the old routine. I think you might have noticed by now that we're not that type of people! So, when my father rang and suggested we go over to Germany to see him for a few days, all expenses paid, naturally we jumped at the chance. Glynn's only been to the Black Forest once and it was wintertime then so it will be great to show him around my birthplace in all its summery beauty. I'll be sure to keep you posted of our continuing adventures along with plenty more photos :-)) The past week has seen us plunge headfirst into the ardous task of finding a job. So far, I've applied for two although only one ... read more

Hi guys. It’s just me again, with my last installment before I head off home through the good old US of A (providing we can get there with Vaughan’s visa dramas). Things here have been really good, but busy. Sometimes it’s been hard to believe that we have actually been living in London all this time - it’s not like we go into the city to see Big Ben daily, so I guess it’s been pretty normal really. Of course though, often even the smallest (or seemingly easy) things seem the most different, and it will also be a bit strange for me to get used to everything back home again as well. Sometimes it’s the most mundane things that you never bother to talk about which I will miss the most from over here ... read more

Well it was all London this weekend. The bus to London left Manchester early Friday morning, after a fairly uneventful 5 hr trip, the bus arrived at Victoria station and it was just a quick ride on the tube to Euston station to meet with Vaughan (although had a few ticketing dramas and even more issues when I couldn’t find Vaughan’s number!). Vaughan and Lucy are staying about 100m from Euston station at the top floor apartment of one of Lucy’s relatives. The location is brilliant and the place has a great balcony (great for a house party!). The Camden Markets are only about 15min walk from their place so we went for a quick shop and for some food. OMG there were so many shops along the way and even more in the markets ... read more

Just completed the Cornish chapter. No more pasties and cream teas. Progressing onto Welsh cakes and leeks. Visited lots of beautiful places, cute fishing villages including Mousehole complete with its cat and glorious beaches being pounded by turquoise seas. Lands End was a little commercialised but the cliffs were spectacular. Nearly visited Jamie Oliver's restaurant in Watergate Bay but read the menu and decided to sniff the smells eminating from the kitchen instead. It worked out being much cheaper. Spent a stunning night on the middle of Dartmoor, lots of mares and foals trotting about, skylarks twittering above and at peace with the world. Sounds very ideal at the moment, mind you the sun is shining, if it was raining I'm sure we'd have a different tale to tell. ... read more

it was sad leaving dublin, but we were excited to see what else was in store for us. we took an early morning ryanair flight to london stansted and then a train that connected to the london metro (tube) system. we stayed in the hyde park/kensington gardens part of london...very nice, peaceful...nothing like the big city itself. however, we still felt like there was a lot to see right around our hostel. the first day we found a market and bought bread, cheese, chicken, and fruit to eat and took it to the park. we sat under a tree in the cool shade and ate. it was a nice way to relax after starting our day off so early. we continued the day with a walk through the middle of kensington gardens and along the edge ... read more
