Today we are taking a shorter ride to explore the temples. Should be approximately 30kms which will take our total to approx 380kms. We set off from our hotel through the town centre. A really busy town. Arrived at the first temple! Ta Prohm, absolutely beautiful - it has been left natural and the trees grow around and through the structure. An amazing place and very much how I imagined it would be. Then we cycled onto the second temple - Bayon - a much larger structure of stone faces and Terrace of the Elephants. unfortunately Matt lost his pass en route and was unable to have a look around. I went in and had a bracelet placed on my wrist and blessed. Lovely feeling. A quick walk and I was confronted by some very steep ... read more

Today was a free day with time to explore the town a bit. Matt and I and a few others headed towards the market to do a bit of shopping. An amazing place, loads of places to shop but all selling the same sort of thing. Once we had finished shopping we headed back to the hotel To finish packing and check out. There are two small swimming pools so it would have been rude not have had a swim. Had a very relaxing afternoon sitting by the pool and chatting to everyone. And then before we knew it, it was 5.30 and the coach was at the hotel to take us to the airport. Our first flight was from Siem Reap to Hanoi, approx 1 1/2 hours. All went smoothly and then we had a ... read more

Today we are cycling to angkor wat and the official finish line. Normal start time of 7am and we had a transfer by coach to see an ancient bridge at Kampong Kdei. This is an 800 year old bridge and just shows what amazing engineers they had in their time. Then on our bikes!! After lunch we headed through a very narrow pathway through the trees, lots of twists and turns. Very determined not to fall off at this late stage and luckily managed to stay on! At the end of this path we tried to gather into one group, not easy when there is 30 of you but this was the way into the finish line. Headed off down the road passing temples and water and then you turn a corner and can see Angkor ... read more

Well there is only day to go before we travel. Case is finally packed! Very hard to decide what to take, as it's going to be raining, thundery and very hot...... Feeling a bit strange today. Mixed emotions. I think I will believe we're going once we get to the airport and meet all our fellow travellers. Going to a wine tasting tonight. Might not be such a good idea but will only take sips! Don't think doing an 11 hour flight with a hangover would be the best idea. Hoping to keep the blog updated but not sure exactly what the wifi connection is going to be like.... read more

How to book a flight? Google the destination, pick a website and search for flights. After half and hour the red mist will descend and then you call my friendly travel agent Sue Claridge of "travel counsellors"! An e-mail arrives with flights, times and cost and the peace is restored as you reply to confirm and it's "job done"! So it's all set for end of Nov to fly west via Vancouver to Aukland and then onto Queenstown.... read more

Off tomorrow, to Folkstone then early ferry on Thursday. Hope Horace' passport is all in order! The plan is to travel through France for the next few days ending up with some friends near Cahors in the Midi Pyrenes where they have a house. Our route is very flexible but we hope to cross East from Cahors along the coast of southern France then into northern Italy for a week or two and on to Slovenia and Croatia. The north to Austria, Germany and Belgium. Plans could change if we find somewhere nice to stay for while then we'll not move on until we want to.... read more

Will I need a reverse polarity tester? Do I have to have a breathalyser kit in France? How much is vignette for Slovenia? Will the dog get attacked by procession caterpillars in Southern France? In 1969 I hitch hiked from Calais to the Hague via the west coast of France, I remember sitting at the side of the road rolling a ciggie waiting for a lift with not a care in the world. I had a rucksac, a hand full of french francs and a sleeping bag. On two occasions on that trip I was picked up by the police for sleeping in a public area, they put me in a cell left the door open wished me "bon nuit" and gave me a coffee in the morning and sent me on my way. If the ... read more

Apart from that, I'm just gonna see where the world takes me! ttfn P... read more
