Ok so heres where it all begins.... well kind of! Had such a mental last couple of weeks since entering the world of unemployment (which kicks ass by the way)... road trip to newquay for a week surfing turned into a beer fest of a week that resulted in my new found beer gut which im soooo not happy about- bring on the lipo when i get to miami hehe or i guess i could just do some exercise... what.... efforts must be doubled if the bikini is to come out in public!! Also went to my friends champagne-fuelled wedding (who is also the best ex-boss ever) which i donned a dress for haha only get the dresses out for very special occasions!! It all begins to get a little scary when you're being invited to ... read more

I decided on bank holiday Monday that it would be cheaper to travel again rather than pay rent on a new flat. So yesterday I booked two tickets, outward to Varna, Bulgaria and returning 5 weeks later from Istanbul, Turkey. Today I need to try and get currency and insurance and a guidebook from the library and maybe a new rucksack. Of all my adventures.. Greece, South America, Dublin, Latvia.. this is the least planned and most stupid. The weblog should be entertaining from the viewpoint of a comfortable armchair, whilst I suffer for your pleasure. If I get encouraging messages back I'll push the danger quota up. Watched Severance at the cinema yesterday, not a good idea straight after buying tickets.... read more

This is my first taste of backpacking so have decided to go to Malaysia for 2 weeks!!!! Well the time has finally arrived.my 2 weeks short backpacking trip to Malaysia. I finished work early and rushed home to get quick bath grab travel bag and then race for the 2.20pm train to kings cross station. Arrived in London 2 ½ hours later then had to find my way to the Gatwick shuttle from kings cross. Not an easy feat I must say in blistering heat and a large bag. I managed to hobble over the streets to the station anyway and make my way to Gatwick airport. Plenty of time for the flight so I think a nice cold beer is on the cards when I arrive there.... read more

This is the transcript of the article about my trip to the South China seas which was published in the Barnsley Chronicle this week. So was this a fair appraisal? Yes it was, but I’ve made a few comments myself at the end. John to dive in foreign waters By Matthew Murray "A WOMBWELL man is to dive more than 150ft into the South China seas this year to view a ship sunk by Japanese bombers in the Second World War. John Awty, of Brampton Crescent, is a member of the British sub aqua club, and will join a handful of divers on his expedition this May when he will view the wreck of the battle cruiser HMS Repulse. The Repulse was sent by Winston Churchill to the Far East to try to stop Japanese aggression. ... read more

I was so pee’d off I was with Swiss Air cancelling my Bangkok to Singapore flight... So with it been quiet at work last night I booked a few hours holiday to sort an alternative. I got home from work very early this morning and after a few hours trawling through web sites, I finally got something sorted with THA Airways. After taxes etc. it’s going to cost me about £50 more than the original ticket from Swiss Air, which when you take into consideration hotel cancellations fees to tie in with the alternate flights offered and the 30kg baggage allowance because it’s business class, I suppose isn’t too bad. Anyway, I’ll be arriving in Singapore on the 11th as originally planned but a little earlier in the day, around 11:15 am. ... read more

Well I’ve got the regulators back from service so now it’s time to look at exactly what I intend to take to Singapore. I visited the organiser of the trip, Jack Ingle who has been diving out in the South China Seas for the last seven years. The journey to Kent to meet up with Jack was well worth the long drive. The help and advise I received about what to take and kit configuration was first class and I’m sure that when I get in the water out there, I’ll only have the kit I need, no more and no less than required. Jack also runs diving courses for experienced divers while out there so I’ve decided to do an Extended Range Course with him while I’m out there. The kit I’m taking is a ... read more

At the Height of his game Theoren Fleury was described as the greatest Hockey Player ever to don a Calgary Flames Jersey. Unfortunately fame and fortune comes with its own set of problems, especially when you are an athlete. Every year, hockey players are given 4 months to rest, relax and prepare for the next season. When that is combined with unlimited cash flow, drugs and ill reputable women usually enter the picture. 4 Months is plenty of time to become addicted to cocaine, as was discovered in the case of Theoren Fleury. What is more surprising is that he managed to become addicted to Trans Fats and Cocaine in the same 4 month period. within hours of this discovery the NHL sent Theo to Europe where he joined the Belfast Giants, who agreed to pay ... read more
