This blog is systems check to see if we're up and running. First of all you'll be glad to know we have our new passports and visas :) phew! After a stressful few weeks all is a ok! So entry number one of what I hope will be an interesting and amusing account of my travels over the next 6 months. I'm currently sitting in first class on Virgin trains down to London after a rather jammy discount making it cheaper than a standard ticket. The excitement is finally kicking in, I've been so busy over the last 4 weeks jamming in as much overtime as possible to try and inflate my budget. As a result Ive probably been pretty grouchy and haven't really had time to actually think about what I'll be getting up to other than boring things like insurance and visas. Hey up! Well for those of you who don't know (where have you been), I'm off to China soon and I'm starting this blog to keep in touch with everyone back home in England. Today is just a quick Hello from me and I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing! T-minus 5 days to go until I fly to China and I'm totally fed up of packing! Trying to cram 22 years worth of my life into a baggage allowance of 20kg isn't easiest thing to do! My bedroom at the moment looks more like the burial ground of clothes and shoes than a peaceful place to sleep, and keep having this re-occurring dream that I'm trapped underneath mountains of clothes with a nothing but a stilletto to dig my way out! ... read more

To start this blogging lark off, I will answer some of the questions that I have frequently been asked about my travel plans. Why am I doing this? Several reasons: 1) I need a break. A long break. 11 and a half years with the company, moving house and changing my job every couple of years, has taken its toll. I'm tired! 2) I've always wanted to travel, but never had the opportunity. Everything has fallen into place at the right time. People who have been travelling before me (Richard and Becci in particular) have really inspired me as to what is out there in the big wide world.
