Finally it was Christmas! Vic’s mum came to England from Holland by ferry and picked us up to take us down to Hayling Island where we would celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with Vic’s Godmother in her 15th century heritage listed cottage - nothing could be more English than that! I was so appreciative, as the girls adopted me as one of the family so I wasn’t alone for Christmas! We set off with a boot full of wine and seats stacked with gifts as we were watching Wendy to make sure she was driving on the right (well, left!) side of the road, giving me my first opportunity to see the real English country side. Arriving at Carol’s to a full house, Wendy had already arranged for us to stay in a near by ... read more

So no, we didn't run out of funds, I discovered that I was expecting a bambino within the first couple of weeks of arriving in Buenos Aires. Not sure what to expect, we headed to the pharmacy to get a home test... and there is no such thing as being a little bit pregnant! I am - we are - happily expecting. So after the positive home test it was a frantic search for an OB-GYN - I was referred to an excellent one called Dr. Pero (accent over the o) and he took very good care of me, the foetus and Sean. Did a blood test to confirm pregnancy had two sonograms one at eight weeks when the foetus was the size of a bean and the other at 12 weeks which as you can ... read more

It seems I´ve hardly started and already 3 weeks of my 6 week trip have gone! Cricky. Better get on with the travelblog... EXCERT FROM DIARY, 14th OCT 2006, On the Ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao (Spain) I´m in my cabin nursing a BIG hangover. I supposed to be looking at maps and planning my route through Spain and Africa but my brain just wont work. Oh well. What´s happened so far? I turned up at Portsmouth with the bike WAY WAY overloaded. As well as ´the essentials´ I have a rubble sack full of food from Sainsburys ´just in case´they dont have any food on the continent. This is ridiculous! I look like a snail with my home on my back! I´m steering like a cow! This is not the kind of sexual bike imagary ... read more

London second 2 weeks 22 Sept Friday Woke late and arranged some more credit on phone, and found a few great 2nd hand stores, and got some really nice work pants. Other than that i spent a lot of the day walking around the area and just cruising around and semi planning the road trip to Brighton with Coner, Michael and Nick. That night we had a couple drinks at the hotel bar, and struck up a poker game, I was doing great in the beginning then my luck ran out lol about half way through the American girls came through and asked if I could drop off Sam at the airport and Amy at Bournemouth, they asked so nicely we really couldn’t say no. We drank in the bar for quite a while then we ... read more

I am overwhelmed with the generosity of people here. I made a pact that when I grow up I will invite others into my home with as much goodwill as I have experienced here. Our generous hosts, Robina and Iain, have welcomed us in, without much previous knowledge of who we are, and offered to let us stay "as long as we like". What a tempting offer! We were whisked away from the train station in a BMW Convertible (no, really, were not impressed) to their darling house in Petersfield. We were then turned loose to have free reign over their laundry, fridge, beer and wine, internet and two upstairs rooms. I told Adam today, "we have stumbled upon a goldmine". After chatting and making plans for our three day stint in this old farming ... read more

Went to my cousin Mark's wedding (to Emma) over the weekend on the outskirts of Southampton called Lyndhurst. Travelled down on Friday morning with my brother Brett and enjoyed the two and a half hour journey chatting, catching up and listening to a few 'tunes' en route. Never normally get the opportunity to see him for that amount of time but managed to 'sort a few things out'!! Hotel was a Best Western and we had booked a 'wedding package' which included lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday breakfasts. The Hotel also had a swimming pool which my family, Mum and Dad included enjoyed on a number of occasions. I was up at 8 both mornings and had a dip before 'breakie'. The wedding was in Southampton itself and majority of the 'family' were transported by ... read more

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once and a while, you could miss it." Its a very strange feeling to be honest you really do have to give so much up to realise what is important in life and what is not. I would never have imagined this time last year that I would be back in Portsmouth but thats the way of the world I guess. So what have I learnt from all this apart from having a job is a huge hurdle to actually living and seeing the world. The people I have met along the way have been some of the most friendliest, down to earth and decent people I could wish to meet the only problem is now where do you meet those types in your home ... read more

Wednesday evening two very excited campers boarded the Pride of Bilbao. As we left port we celebrated with a bottle of bubbly as the English coast disappeared from view. Our cabin was large and comfy. The unexpected bonus on this crossing is the possibility of seeing whales in the Bay of Biscay. As it happened we only saw dolphins. There is plenty of entertainment on board including bars, casino, cinemas and entertainers (including a pianist with a very Suffolk accent). Friday morning we disembarked and headed straight for Bilbao.... read more

Hi All. How's the Winter going back in New Zealand? We have certainly seen enough pictures of the snow over there. We don't miss it, but don't feel jealous - Winter here is much crappier & you can all laugh at us soon enough :) Meanwhile, the weather here has been in Heatwave mode - last week we saw most days at 32 degrees & above for about 6 days in a row. It would be mildly nice if it wasn't so humid. With temperatures not dropping below 20 degrees overnight, it has been hard to sleep. Since a wicked thunderstorm yesterday morning it has been a bit cooler & much more manageable. Considering the weather, we have not been up to too much at all, as it's been too hot to walk around much. A ... read more
