Hello and welcome to Steve and Linda's travel weblog, or travelblog as the cognoscenti would have it. We will be travelling around India, Thailand and Cambodia during December 2005 and January 2006, and recording our experiences here. If you're very lucky, there may even be photos. Unlike many of our co-bloggers, we are not searching for spiritual fulfilment. A nice cup of tea and a biscuit will probably do us. Please feel free to add your comments to any of our journals. If you subscribe, you will automatically be sent a notification email when we make updates.... read more

Well with three weeks to go before my little adventure i have had to start doing some planning. Vaccinations on tuesday, doctors letter of health on wednesday for south african visa and todays task start a blog and learn how to use it. luckily starting a blog was significantly less painful than the other 2 tasks so in weeks to come there should be some content to add here. Now all i have to do is learn to use my digital camera and how to download the pictures to a PC. you would never guess i had been an IT professional for 9 years.... read more

Just a quick note to let you all know we've arrived safely. We've settled into John's Aunt Elizabeth's place in Wimbledon and are heading off to sleep. We stuck it out until 10pm (our time - it's only 2pm for you guys!) but are absolutely wiped. John's aunt made us a lovely english meal of lamb with hand-picked raspberries for dessert. Delish! All we've done so far is eat and we have only been out of Vancouver for less than 24 hours! I'll leave you with a quick descrip to bring you into our temporary world. The houses here are so cute (beautiful stone, tudor and rowhouses abound), the streets are so quaint and the gardens are so gorgeous. Very English looking but I expect that is typical in England! It's a bit weird having the ... read more

One thing that can be said about the English is that they are polite and orderly ... and they love a good queue. So we should not have been shocked when we arrived at Wimbledon Park at 6.30am on a Saturday morning in June and were given a card containing our number in the queue and a substantial booklet entitled "A guide to queuing at the Wimbledon Championships". I suspect this same scene in Australia would have been more than a little chaotic, with people trying to save spots for their mates and a bit of jostling for position going on. But not in England! We had arrived early to join the hordes lining up to secure general admission tickets to see the tennis at Wimbledon. The more enthusiastic punters had camped out overnight in the ... read more

Well, today after a 15 hour trip over we decided it would be fun to get up at 4am (don't really know what we were thinking, probably jet lag) to go and try and get tickets for the first day of the Wimbledon tournament. It turns out that we have the patience of saints! (actually I learned I have the patience I always knew Michael had it, after all he puts up with me). After a bus and two trains, we got to the grounds to be given our "queue" numbers, for our American friends this means a line, a very long line. We were given #'s 863 to 865. While I was counting our blessings since I thought this was a very good small number, little did we know that there was another one of ... read more

Preparations The traumas that ensued after we started to pack up our lives and take a major detour via 14 countries included the following: *Reading travel guides and wanting to go everywhere and then trying to choose the places we want to go to most. Why is it that the place you want to go most is always the last place you read about? *Learning to Kayak in the wonderful British weather. Carl being told he needs to spend more time upright. *Getting hold of some neoprene socks. The full story will be published in a three-volumn epic once we find a publisher. *Getting a very nice camera. No blaming the equipment here. *Budgeting nightmares. How much? YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW!!! *Booking a Round the World Ticket. 2 Months of struggle, the rules of an ... read more
