Ed: Well, just want to start off by saying Thank You to all of you that called (even if it was the middle of the night!), emailed, smsed and sent cards. It was nice that you remembered even though I’m miles and miles away. Well - the day started with just after midnight the girls at work decided they wanted to be the first ones to wish me a happy birthday - I was in la la land so I have no idea what I said - all I remember is lots of people yelling ‘happy birthday’. Then at 5am I get a call from Cris - also wanting to be the first person to call! I think Matt is gonna unplug the phone for my next birthday as he has the unfortunate chance of having ... read more

As per usual, I have left my packing etc until the very last minute. Unfortunately the whole leaving things to the last minute has meant that I have needed to buy new hiking shoes- I think I may have accidentally binned my beloved old ones *sob*. I have crammed everything into my backpack- and it kinda just fits. I have lost the art of packing light I fear. My handluggage stuff is sitting in a big pile. Needless to say it looks like there is far too much there to fit into my wee rucksack. But I need ALL of it in my hands at all time so some bastard can't nab it in the airport (like they did with my swiss credit knife in Peru). Dani's gone to get the box of gloves for us, ... read more

So here we are. Last working day, 14:45 just had a drink with the boss at lunch and I've got 1 hour 15 until me and a few of the guy from work had out in town for a few bevveys. Got a couple of day to get the rest of the packing sort before we fly on Sunday evening. Really excited now but a little nervous as I'm sure we've forgotten to organise stuff... Oh well if we have I'm sure we'll find out when soon enough. Want to wish everyone the best of luck and hope you all stay safe. Please keep in touch and keep checking here for updates. Well, this is our last week at work. We are both getting equal bouts of excitment and nervousness (occasionally bordering on blind panic). Even though we quit our jobs a while ago and have organised the tickets, itinerary and even packed half our travel gear, the actual act of leaving the safe monotony of our daily routines and heading off into the relative unknown has not fully hit yet. Our first stop is Spain and that will be where our adventures will begin..... ... read more

Finally! I'm here at King's Cross and I have some time before my train leaves to take me north so I've decided to take some time to post. Typing on the international keyboard isn't easy and it's going to take some time to learn that the shift key is shorter and farther away than my pinky is used to going. :-) My journey started last night at 7:10pm and ended when I arrived in London at 9:45am. (It felt like 4:45am EST--5 hours difference to the East Coast.) No problems with any of the flights or luggage or anything. The flight attendant on the flight to Dulles was fantastic. We chatted and sort of poked fun at the man in front of me that was popping Vicodin during the flight...that guy was feeling goooooood. Then I ... read more
