Chapter 3 - DAY 13 - London (Wembley)
Published: September 8th 2011Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyLONDONS CALLING This morning we took the tube into London (around 20 mins) to see if I could get an All Black World Cup jersey at Harrods – hadn’t had any luck elsewhere. True to form Harrods came through 67 Pounds for the official World Cup All Black Jersey which was pretty reasonable I think. We also had a very nice ‘Deli Lunch’ at the Harrods Cafe. Their food area is pretty amazing in terms of the options available. The weather was awful with heavy rain and strong winds (reminded us of home!) hopefully it will clear before the big game tonight WEMBLEY At 5pm the weather was still not great so we caught the 83 bus just down the road from our hotel. Wembley is on the 83 bus route. It was a bit unclear ... read more
Concert of a Lifetime
Published: April 5th 2011Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyIt's that time of the week. I am, once again, sitting in Starbucks writing my weekly blog post for you lovely people! So, this week was kind of rough. After spending the week before traveling all over Europe, it was difficult to make myself 'settle down.' Though I will admit that it was very nice and refreshing to be 'home.' Though spring break was amazing, it feels good to have a routine again and have a fixed plan for mostly every day. My internship was fine this past week. I'm having more people come to me with stuff to do, so I appreciate that, but I still haven't figured out my 'project' that I am going to do. Our internship coordinator suggested we try to find something that we can improve in the company to make ... read more
Back home & next steps
Published: May 21st 2010Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyYes, it is more than a month now since we are back home. Difficult to believe it but time flies by. I don’t know what we were expecting but when coming home we felt like we had been on a long week end trip. The house was still there, everything in place, it is a bit like when you change your clothes, you just put them on and you are ready to go again with the flow! Still the first week or so we were asking ourselves where next? Oh we just stay here... Robson managed to visit most of his friends in a few weeks. I was so brave that I accepted with enthusiasm to accompany him for dinner with Maria and Denise his two Brazilian friends. Here I was having dinner with three Portuguese ... read more
Day 6: The Concert
Published: September 19th 2009Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyHey all, so day six was quite different! We decided it would be best to have a bit of a sleep in so we slept till about 830ish - 9am. From there we leisurely got ready and went downstairs for our breakfast. We went over the itinerary and decided what we had left to do and planned how I was getting to Wembley Stadium for the day. Dad was going to hang out around the area and sort of take it easy, while I was leaving for the concert at 12 noon. The gates opened at 4pm but I wanted a good seat! I left for the tube and took the central line East to Bond St Station and from there transfered to the Jubilee Line North to Wembley Park. Upon arriving I wasn't sure ... read more
One of the best days (Day 23)
Published: June 1st 2009Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyFA Cup Final Match The best and coolest things I have done so far on this trip. I can't begin to put into words how outstanding this was. First off…. just walking up to Wembley Stadium was awe-inspiring. But.... nothing could prepare for me what awaited further on. Tens of thousands of football fans singing and cheering on their teams and this was not even inside the stadium yet. I have some amazing videos I will try to post. Now, my seat. OMG. My ticket was on the field as “on the field” you could get with actually being on the pitch. It was Row #1 at about the 20 yard line. There was a guy who was an old Everton player back in the 60s that dozens of people kept coming up and asking to ... read more
Good Bye London
Published: April 26th 2009Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyIt was supposed to be a simple dinner at Pradip's. He and Alec told us to come over to their place for a quick bite so that we didn't have to bother about food the last night. Knowing them, we should have guessed, but we didn't! They organised a party and invited a few friends! We had loads of fun, good food, good people and well ... too much champagne! What a nice way to say goodbye, we enjoyed it so much. Bon voyage they told us! Cheers to all B&R... read more
Saying good bye
Published: April 23rd 2009Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyHey, just to share a bit of nerves with you all. I cannot stop rearranging the luggage and removing things. I will end up with nothing I guess. Ben has done his bag once and that was it. I am still trying to share the weight of the guidebooks though. Our essentials are Imodium and hand gel, and chocolate. Anyway, since the end of March we have been saying goodbye to our friends and family. We are now looking forward to sharing this experience with you all in here and when we come back. Pity we did not have the camera with us all the time but here are a few of friends we have said good bye to. We update you next from the Bosphorus.... read more
Trip Preparation
Published: April 9th 2009Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyLondon Robson is home now, he started his sabbatical, so we really are 'on the move'. We are still in London but our trip has already started! All the preparation work makes it so real. We have a check list, there are about 70 items on it. Among the high priorities we find our visa's for China, Mongolia, Russia, Vietnam and Cambodia. Also very important were our vaccinations. And then still some bookings to be done and decide about what to take. It is very exciting really, our trip has started! ... read more
Pre-Travel Jitters
Published: March 18th 2009Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyThe day before I leave. I've never been one to be worried about travelling somewhere different or new, but I have to admit I'm quite nervous. It's not because reading about all the diseases I need vaccination for, the natural disasters or little 4ft asian blokes stealing my passport and making me jump naked to get it back. It's that liberating idea of freedom that every kid our age wishes for. Some may say you get that with University life but I disagree. University to an extent is a new life under organised instruction and following norms and conditions that pratically all students get on with in a familiar cultural context. Whatever you make think, we're just doing the same thing thousands of kids are doing have done for a long time. Freedom for me, is ... read more
Into Month 4 . . . What have I seen?
Published: June 10th 2008Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » WembleyHello Everyone, I just got off Skype with Amanda Jo and started to think about what I have scene so far in the past 3 months. Some of the things I have seen have been repeats, but I think they are still worth mentioning. You see, sometimes I get a little depressed because I work 45 hours a week, and when I finally get a weekend where I can go do something, I tend to want to relax. So let's take stock of what I have done or seen so far. England Westminster Abbey Tower of London Saint Paul's Cathedral Museum of London British Museum "The Boat Race' (Cambridge vs. Oxford crew race on the Thames) Wembley Stadium (England vs. USA Friendly) Hampton Court Dorset Borough Market Spitlefields Market '31 steps' 'Wicked' 'Lord of the Rings' ... read more
