Well Hello !! its been a while - over 6 months in fact - since we typed our last blog in a late night internet café in Rio both full of anticipation, dread and excitement about our return to reality and what we hoped would be our next great adventure. And an adventure it certainly has been ! …so tonight after returning from a failed attempt to meet out travelling hero -Michael Palin - due to mass demand for seats in the gallery auditorium he was presenting a debate on something or other, we find ourselves drinking red wine feeling slightly disappointed (although happy that Palin has achieved rock star status), reflective and a little pissed ready to document what happened next……..so here goes! But firstly for anyone sat there thinking that a ‘back home’ blog ... read more

The opportunity to set off your own fireworks is an exciting one for an Aussie, as this has been banned in Australia since the 1980's. So on my first Guy Fawkes night in the UK, I made full use of the opportunity to let the pyromaniac in me free! In the UK you can buy fireworks from the supermarket around Guy Fawkes Day - a bit different from the trip to Canberra required in Oz! As you can also buy beers at the supermarket - preparing for a Guy Fawkes party only requires one stop! Actually - we did not celebrate on Guy Fawkes Day itself as the 5th was a Sunday. However, on the Saturday night we celebrated with a big fireworks extravaganza, . Anyway, it does not seem to matter here, for at least ... read more

I have been in the UK for exactly 1 week and 6 days and have managed to fit a lot in. So far it has been busy busy busy... so much to do in such a little time! Lots of sightseeing, shopping, 2 visits to Brighton, nights out, dinners, lunches, moving house, tube rides, bus rides, overlander train trips... you name it! London is absolutely beautiful!!! I love it so much! Anyone who says it is drab and depressing, obviously hasn't been here in Spring. The weather has been perfect and there are blossoms and new leaves on all the trees and gorgeous flowers in all the gardens... so many colours! From the moment I stepped off the tube in Vauxhall (where Tim was living) I was hooked. There is just so much to see and ... read more

The Toilet exhibit (yes, it has a fancy name that I don't remember or care for right now) was taken down six months ago. This was the main reason for my visit here, so I was a little upset... Then I walked around a bit, ate the world's hottest, vegetarian lasagna (no idea what was in them), and I'm about to go find chocolate and a place to spend the night. ... read more

We haven’t gone anywhere yet…unless you count Enfield to Finchley as part of the trip. But it is exactly four weeks to the day until we depart these shores. And that is worthy of an opening entry. Anyway. Mia and Jake are looking forward to riding elephants and seeing fiery skies. Aren't we all, though?... read more
