London saw quite a few hours of snow from early morning to midday on 24th January and snow remained on the grounds on 25th January. I had planned walking on Wood Side Park, N22 in the morning on 25th January. As soon as I had finished my daily cleaning duties at home, I headed for Wood Side Park. Quite a few amount of grit had been laid on the pavements and roads on Wood Green High Road, but snow had remained on the minor residential lanes and green spaces in the residential areas. I reached Wood Side Park before 10 o’clock; found the brick gate and a beautiful historic Italianate style mansion, George Meehah House, which is currently known as Earlham Grove House. Quite a few amount of snow remained on the grounds of Wood Side ... read more

We continued having a lovely time together in London. On 29th December we went to Highgate Wood for a walk. There were a lot of families with children and dogs on the woodland. The café was doing takeaway and serving refreshments for walkers; the toilet was open as well. We also found the Queen’s Wood opposite to Highgate Wood and entered there after finishing the circular course on the Highgate Wood. Queen’s Wood Café was shut on 29th December, but saw loads of walkers. In contrast to Highgate Woods, Queen’s Wood’s lies on the hilly side and contains a number of slopes, which I thought makes its landscape more interesting. We saw two little ponds on the foot of hilly footpath. During the festive period, we have found some interesting TV programmes – Carols from King’s, ... read more

We had planned staying in London in 2020 – it was the first time in 20 years while I have been living in the UK. Having heard that all the shops will be closed on the Christmas Day and some shops will be closed for a few days around Christmas, I carefully planned shopping and meals between 20th and 24th December. Mark finished his work at home just after 5 o’clock on Christmas Eve. He has been working at home since the end of March and is having an annual leave between Christmas and New Year. We decided to have ‘sushi’ takeaway for Christmas Eve’s dinner and listened to Cambridge King’s College’s Carol while having sushi rolls. Because of Covid 19, there was no congregation, just a choir of singers were singing and selected people did ... read more

Having volunteered for 2 Willow Road, Hampstead on 22 September, I was given 2 badges of Priority Entry for London’s historic houses. We read through the guide of Open House London 2012, and decided to visit 32 Warwick Gardens, N4 1JG on Sunday afternoon. After the lunch, we took the No.141 bus, got off on St Ann’s Road, and walked to Warwick Avenue. Despite the rainy weather, quite a few visitors were looking round the house. I spoke to one of the ushers how the modern family living room has been remodelled from Victorian mid-terrace house. She explained: In order to create more usable open space for the modern family living, they decided to remove all of Victorian fireplaces and mantelpieces, internal walls which divided on living room to the other and kitchen and dining room. ... read more

If you have ever been to London, you will understand what I mean when I say that there is no other city like the metropolis of London town. There are an infinite amount of neighborhoods occupying the busy streets of London. Thus, there is an infinite amount of land to explore and people to meet. London is known worldwide for its diversity -- I witnessed this first hand when I attended Hillsong Church on Tottenham Court Road on Sunday morning. With a crowd of over a thousand people lining up around the corner of the theater to be seated, you are bound to see some ethnic variety. After I finally took my seat in the midst of the crowded auditorium, I noticed an African American woman seated at my left. Turning to my right, an Indian ... read more

In London I didn’t do much, I mainly caught up on sleep, walked Oxford street and wandered around, did a little bit of people watching which has turned out to be a bit of a favourite. It’s funny the things you see when you just stop, sit and watch. The second day I was in London was Megan’s birthday so that night we headed out to Sheppard’s bush to a Thai restaurant called Jasmine Thai. Then on to the Walky as megan call’s it for a birthday drink. It wasn’t a late night as Megan had to go to work the next day and I also had to be back out at Gatwick airport to catch my flight to Split Croatia. It felt like I hadn’t left the airport when I got back there in ... read more

As promised by the forecasters the day has dawned bright and sunny and a high of 25C expected.Tour director,Gretchen has a plan of a visit to Regents Park after we try again to buy a replacement camera from one of the camera shops in the Tottenham Court road area. The sun streams in our studio windows and with the sun rising at 4.50am it meant another early wakeup. The shower gave up on us this morning after I had my shower leaving Gretchen a bit distressed. So we rang the landlady up and she eventually turned up with a key to one of their other flats nearby and Gretchen was relieved. The shower is heated by some electrical gadget that had blown a fuse or something and couldnt be fixed until tomorrow. So the landlady escorted Gretchen over ... read more

This blog is coming to you from the private library in the British Museum. The group has seperated to explore the galleries at each person's own pace, and Eleni found herself in front of a computer with the Museum's database. After some nifty linking (there was no place to type a url), she was able to locate the travelblog website and has thus found a way to use FREE INTERNET! Needless to say, she is excited and cannot wait to tell the rest of the group. We may be here for a while. So far today, we got up early to be the first ones in line for the Tower of London. After receiving our tickets, we rushed to the Crown Jewels and got a nearly private tour. Parker stopped for a mid-morning snack at the ... read more
