Well I'm in London! I’d like to say that’s great but truthfully there is not much about London that excites me. It’s big, it’s busy, at the moment it’s hot, and I’m on the 7th floor of a hostel with a BROKEN LIFT. On the plus side, I have met 3 of my room mates and they seem rather nice, including a guy travelling with a broken foot - what do I have to complain about? I really don’t envy him the trip up to the 7th floor every day though... What IS very exciting is that in about 38 hours I will be leaving on my trip! Not that I'm counting or anything. In the meantime I get to say goodbye to London in style. I have my bed all set up ready to collapse ... read more

I arrived in London pretty comfortably on a 8 hour flight that connected in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I actually got a few hours sleep because I was able to book myself at the front of the row. I knew that I would really need those precious few hours of sleep as it would be awhile before I would sleep again. I arrived in London around 9:30 am and first impression was It seemed alot like Canada! The only difference was that people spoke with funny accents but that changed as I went into Central London. Now I have all day in London before I fly out the next day to Italy and Ill admit I didnt do much planning for this part of my trip. My knowledge of London consists of the Queen, Buckingham Palace, Fish ... read more

Hello everyone, Its crazy how life can be some how unexpected. Anyway, yesterday was a huge day...start up early by a free tour. Tour are given by Sandmans New Europe. They are making tours all over Europe and it is a great way to first of all meet other travelers and also find your repairs in the city you will be visiting in next few days. So we did the tour, walk around the royal town for about 3hours. Because London is so huge, they only cover this section of the city in the tour. However, they have 3 other tours (cost around 8£ each) that will cover other section of the city (old city, east end, nightlife). The tour start in green park and went by the buckingham palace, where we watch part of the ... read more

Hey folks, I have only 8 minutes to write this so I will highlight what we did in the first 3 days of our journey around Europe and North Africa. Day 1-2: Arrived at the airport in Montreal way too early. We walk around for 30 minutes, and went to an expensive table to watch the first half of the Germany WC game. At the half we went in line for check in and some lady told us that we were upgrade to Air Can first class and will be landing in Heathrow. It was the best news I had in a long time and was very happy to fallow her to the Air transat desk. But, yes there is a but, once we made it there (at the very end of the terminal), an other ... read more

London - I made it. After an extra week in New York due to the Iceland Volcano that I cannot spell or pronounce, I finally made it to London - just a week late. So, I continued on my journey as planned, just missing out on the week in Ireland. LONDON. After pulling an all-nighter flight again, I resumed night shift mode and with the ease of the Oyster Card travel system, I dumped my backpack at my run-down but centrally located Piccadilly backpackers hostel, grabbed a map and a coffee and went walkabout (it is here that I will tell you I hate those suitcases on wheels things that are everywhere - that's not backpacking people!) When I first emerged from the underground, what hit me most was the sight (and age) of all the ... read more

I can almost picture my reaction, it might be my reaction to seeing the Mona Lisa in the Louvre x 1000. The Sphinx and the Pyramids. Everyone knows about the Sphinx and the Pyramids. Go to any museum in the world, there's BOUND to be an Egyptian exhibit of some sort; mummies, sarcophagi (is that the plural of sarcophagus?), hieroglyphs. I've seen two other pyramids before now; in Mexico in Chichen Itza, the Temple of Kukulkan, and the - Pyramid du Louvre. It's quite a surreal feeling to know that I will be seeing the most famous pyramids on earth, the pyramids of Giza, the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world - Wiki, along with the Sphinx, wiki. ... read more

“If I get caught then I’ll go home”. I have stopped in a small coffee shop off the Tottenham Court Road in central London. Magda is the first example of this part of London’s modern and multi-cultural identity I meet today. She’s Albanian and starts by telling me she isn’t working, but helping a friend; after a little while and with a few cheeky smiles she decides to trust me and tells me she is working illegally, living in central London, making a good living and sending money home to Tirana. She is philosophical and says that if she gets noticed and caught, it’s fine; she will take her pounds and go home richer than when she arrived. “So, why Tottenham Court Road?” I ask. “No one is same here” She quips with a smile. “no ... read more

People come to the restaurant with affects - tiny brass objects attached to the back of their shiny shoes, pleated skirts with ruffles, keyhole backed dresses, children who whirl around in the revolving door for at least twice wearing fake fur coats and glasses, women carrying things that I didn’t even know existed like portable ashtrays for inside their handbag (yes, really) useless stoles in the shape of circles, metal Romanesque hair bands like women used to wear in Roman times or in the films. As I wait, the couple to my right kiss each other as if they are in bed. They break off from their kissing but without breaking their conversation, she gets her vanity mirror out of her hand bag, pokes the corners of her eyes, clips it shut, puts it away ... read more

The rest of the weekend was pretty much one big party. Thursday night I went out with Jess, Cassie, Melanie, and Jenny (my uni girls) to a bar called The Roxy, which had a really funky ambiance and played more alternative music, which was fun to dance to. Afterwards I found my way home by myself via bus so I'm slowly mastering all facets of the London transport system...even at 2 in the morning. Friday night the uni girls didn't want to go out, but I really wanted to dance so I venture out by myself to the clubs in Leceister Square, which I learned first hand are not the classiest. I first went to a club called Yates, which had horrible music, so I quickly left and moved onto another club called Metra, just up ... read more
