Hello Again! It's been four days since I last wrote; that's not too bad, right? So Thursday was my first day of class, and it was incredible. We met up at the school at 9:45 and left a 10:10 for a mystery coach trip to an unknown location. I chatted with a girl from Israel for a bit, and it was interesting to talk to her. She was really cold - which I understood - although it was a beautiful 60-ish degree day. I was trying to follow the road signs on the drive, but having very little geographical knowledge of England, I was completely lost. We kept following the signs for France though, and I was concerned that I didn't have my passport, but thankfully I didn't need it (it would have spoiled the surprise ... read more

Hello All, Welcome to my travel blog. I am sitting in a coffee shop in Notting Hill at the moment trying to organize my life before I set off for Kigali, Rwanda next week. Rather than writing emails to everyone, I'll be updating this blog (hopefully) semi-regularly throughout the year as I travel. That is about it for now, I fly to Africa next Tuesday so I'll update some time next week! ... read more

Ahojte.

It's just you, some friends and about 500,000 other people packed into a few miles of London to see amazing costumes, hear (very loud) music, smell the illegal substances in the air and stuff yourself silly with wonderful Caribbean food - welcome to a true London experience - the Notting Hill Carnival! The Carnival started in the 60s as a way of overcoming racial tension by showcasing the diversity of the Caribbean lifestyle. OK it wasn't always successful, with a fair amount of violence and rioting in early years - it's much better now, they leave the little showdown to the end of the Carnival. Miss Jane's carnival tip #1 - leave a couple of hours before the end to avoid a bottle in the head. I must admit that one of the first thing I ... read more
