This morning I woke up on the plane to the stewardess handing me a nice warm breakfast. It was 11 am London time. 90 minutes later I safely landed at Gatwick aiprot. Jeneva and I excited the plane and headed to customs. The guy quized me about my trip and stamped my passport, then directed me to baggage claim. My backpack was waiting for me. Jeneva and I both were taking the Gatwick express so we went to buy our tickets. Then we said goodbye, snapped some more pictures and promised to remain in touch. On the train I called home, they were happy I was safely abroad. The train arrived at Victoria Station and I followed my directions to Astor Victoria hostel about 4 blocks away. There was a line out the door ready to ... read more

Today we walked around the British Museum in the morning. It was very cool, but it gets frustrating to see all these pieces of history out of context. When we're in Greece we can see where all the frescoes and statues should have been. The mummies in the Egypt section were awesome, and creepy. Again, I felt bad for the dead people on display, but it didn't stop me from taking pictures. After that we walked down to Madame Tussauds, I got to hang out with Britney Spears on a stripper pole, and James was putting with Tiger Woods. It was a little lame, really touristy. After that we went to Regents Park, it was kind of like Hawrelawk Park with more birds. There are so many tourists around, we never feel out of place. It's ... read more

It was a long flight, and we haven't slept for almost two days, but we're here, in London! It's pretty cool so far. The weather is really nice, the trees are green and the flowers are blooming. We didn't do much today, mostly slept. We're staying in an area by a University, so there's a lot of different people around. The parks, and squares are really nice, there's lots of trees and fountains, and HUGE squirrels, and lots of pigeons. Tomorrow we plan to go to the British Museum which is really close to our hotel. They don't seem to stop for pedestrians, which is scary, but we just follow everyone else. I didn't fall in the Gap on the underground, so I'm happy. That's about all for now! We will update more tomorrow.... read more

Casy, Jordan, Jackie, and I all took a break from homework today to go to the square around the corner and throw a frisbee around in the 57 degree weather. Before we knew it, shoes were off and we were running around barefoot, doing cartwheels, and occasionally actually catching said frisbee. All successful catches prompted an array of clapping, jumping, and squealing. We broke out into song on the way home, kind of wishing that it would start raining so that we could run home in the rain. We did get a few raindrops. What a nice little adventure outside; I really needed that. I've been in a strange mood lately and I'm running out of time here, which definitely contributes to the strange mood. I really love London, but I am looking forward to summertime ... read more

Greetings, bloggers. It is 12:53 pm right now in London, and I am sitting at an Internet cafe, updating for you all. When last we left, I was about to embark on my first day's adventures. Thursday I went up in the London Eye. It is a huge ferris-wheel type contraption. You get into a little capsule with about 20 other people, and go for a ride around and have a marvelous view of the city. The best is Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, because it is literally right across the Thames. And, when you get higher up towards the top, you can see Buckingham Palace. Once I got towards the top, though, it started to rain, (of course), and then everything was quite blurry, as there were no windshield wipers. ha When I ... read more

Today we decided to visit Marks and Spencer to buy us both a warm coat! Very cold here today, about 5 C I think. We only got lost once or twice(Mark says we weren't lost, just going slightly in the wrong direction). We rode on the top floor of a red double decker bus which was fun. The public transport here is amazing, why people have cars in London is beyond me... you can get anywhere on the trains and if you can't you take the bus. We visited the Museum of Natural History and Victoria and Albert Museum. It's hard to imagine that these buildings were built before Australia was even thought of let alone discovered. Some of the things in there just blow you away. We've put some pictures on. Tomorrow we are doing ... read more

Hi all! So I realize it's been quite a while since I've updated. School has kept me inundated with work. I cannot say how different the system is here. The amount of reading is incredible, and if you get even a little bit behind it's incredibly difficult to catch up. That being said, the freedom you have on the exam (you usually have to answer three or four questions out of ten) means that if you're not interested in something you don't really need to study it or read about it, because you can just dodge that question on the exam. Ok, so a few things I've noticed about London and the UK in general. 1. There are security cameras everywhere. You literally cannot walk down the block, take the tube, buy milk, or really do ... read more

It was another rainy day today...perfect weather for a trip to another Museum. After consulting my guidebooks, I realized that still hadn't made it to the British Museum. So, I thought that was a good place to spend the day. The British Museum is the oldest public museum in the world and it holds the greatest collection of artifacts of Western civilization. The galleries cover civilizations from Ancient Egypt to modern European cultures, and everything in between. When I arrived to the Museum, I walked into the Great Court to look for a map. What an impressive beginning to my day. I didn't have my camera with me, so the picture I have is from my phone and probably does not do it justice. The Great Court is a glass-covered square that is so bright...you couldn't ... read more

Hello all, Firstly, Im sure most of you have heard this by now, but whats the difference between Graham Henry and Viagara? At least Viagara gives you a semi. ... Safely made it back from our last flight before we get home. I dont think either of us will miss airports, although we are semi-professional at navigating them now. And it would be the last flight where we get the smallest seats, I think I was practically spooning the guy in front of me. Anyway, had a lovely time in Norway with Julie and her family. We had a drive around town seeing all the sights, like the biggest lake in Norway, the oldest working steam boat in the world and some viking village that may or may not have been a viking village. Had a ... read more

Well, I know I've been a little remiss in the updating department, so here goes. I've done lots of registration type things in the last couple of days, but the real excitement began yesterday. I had my induction into the International History department here at LSE, and then Natisha (a girl from Penn) and I went around the Freshers' Fair, a gathering of all 190 societies from the LSE Student Union as they try and vie for your membership. It costs about a pound to join each society so I signed up for Inns of Court (for those students who want to become barristers), Dance (if you're a member you get unlimited dance classes for two quid a class-that's only $4!), Indian Society (they're putting on a big cultural show, and auditions are coming up soon), ... read more
