Hi Everyone again The weather here has picked up and I think it’s going to be lovely for our last week in Devon. We drove down to a place called Buckfastleigh not far from Plymouth to board a steam train which took us to a place called Totnes. It only goes for 7miles but it was fun,at Totnes theyhave a rare breed farm which we didn’t go to,but a guy from there at }the railway station Had a beautiful Siberian owl on his arm showing us all. And of course they had a rail shop and old carriages ect, which Kevin loved. Today we went to Cornwall to a fishing village called Polperro within the Polperro heritage coastline in south Cornwall. It is a noted tourist destination particularly in summer months, for its idyllic appearance with tightly packed ... read more

Over Easter my family and I spent four days in wonderful Cornwall. The whole family, which includes my husband, our two 6-year-old children and me, had a blast in Polperro. There's something for everyone, every age and every type of traveller. When you arrive in Polperro, it's almost like stepping back in time.. in the best possible way! Polperro is an old fishing village on the Cornish south coast and only a few miles from the larger town of Looe. The centre of the village feels unspoilt and authentic, full of beautiful cottages around a small harbor, a couple of loca... read more

Polperro is a tiny fishing village located along the south Cornwall coast, arguably the best of all the coasts in the UK. Little detached houses, each unique in size and shape dot the rising hilly landscape encapsulating the harbor below, which feeds in to the Atlantic Ocean. It is far too pretty to be believable, too cute and perfect with its quaint narrow streets too small for cars to squeeze through complete with a multitude of tearooms to fill up on traditional scones with homemade jam and Cornish clotted cream. For myself and my family Polperro has a deeper meaning that just ‘pretty little Cornish town’. It is a place we holidayed in our childhoods. Our days were spent on a tiny sandy beach building sandcastles before smashing them. When we tired of destroying other little ... read more

PART B OF THE 20TH APRIL, DAY 7 We continued on to Polperro. We had to park at a carpark at the top of the village and catch a truck type vehicle down into the town. Again, these are the narrowest streets that I have ever seen!! Lots of people and vehicles all trying to pass one another in a very narrow lanes with shops on either side. We walked down through the streets to the harbour and decided to take a 1/2 hour boat ride. We really enjoyed this little boat ride. When we returned we rushed back to the car to continue our journey as we were hoping to get as far as Padstow tonight. I don't think we are going to make it. LOL!! After Polperro we continued on to the town of ... read more

The Cornish Send off/Dry run!! Well it is nearly time! Less than 3 weeks to go before we are off on our way around the world! This weekend was about saying goodbye to the Cornish contingent and a great time for a bit of a dry run! We started the trip with a run down to Charlotte's Mum's house and an overnight so Liam could meet Digory & Nan. All went well with a lovely home cooked meal of Chicken Tarragon & home grown Vegetables. After a good night sleep and a home cooked fry up (thanks mum) we were ready to tackle Bodmin Moor! Charlotte showed Liam the sights including a home grown walking tour of Ben Gumm's cave, the Cheesewring, Gold diggings, the Donkey pool & the Hurlers. Which Liam managed to practically ... read more

Finish work, get home, get changed, get in car and be driven to Kernow (Cornwall for the uninitiated). A bit of a test for this here bloggy type mabob, and how long a 6'5" man can be cooped up in tight spaces (plane seats, car seats, bunk beds, packing creates, jail cells), 4 1/2 hours door to door and I can still feel all my bodily particles, so 11 hrs to L.A. no sweat. William Blake was absolutely right when he said 'green and pleasant land' Crow's nest, (near Liskard) is beautiful 'her rolling fields, swooping swallows, and her playful sheep' (stand up all you Blackadder fans) And in the centre of it all a small holding belonging to Lorna and Digory (Charlotte's Mum and Step Dad) a chance to stretch our legs, as Lorna cooks ... read more

June - One week gone and already on pasta overload. We seem to have seen and done loads in one week. Made our way down the coast of Devon and Cornwall and funnily enough we are not the first people to discover these places. Other people were there before us, eating icecreams and stuffing pasties. As you can imagine Nik has had to get his daily adrenaline fix so we have walked over it, cycled around it, run up it and canoed along it and now I'm cream crackered. Nik - Getting into a routine after the first week, preparing meals, spanish lessons and the occasional attempt at personal hygene. Had the odd cock up firstly should have gone round anti clockwise because Im blind on the left side and haven't seen the sea yet, Joon ... read more

Another trip to Cornwall, this time with the parents in tow. Determined to show off some of the country that we so enjoying. The trip included some visits to wicked little villages (like Polperro and Cadgewith), cream teas (they only get better) a few castles and estates (St Micheals Mount and Coteheal) and enough narrow roads to make the price of the Sat Nav. A funny incident (although we weren't laughing at the time) happened when mum refused to leave the island at St Micheals Mount. She was determined to buy a sea gull. Don't ask why. Nobody knows - there are heaps in NZ anyway.. This amounted to her spending ages in the gift shop, determined to make the (pricey) ornithological purchase. As you can imagine, while we waited, the tide came in. The result ... read more

David and I went to Polperro in Cornwall in the south west of England (well - I guess it IS the south west of England {sorry to Devon}!). Polperro is a beautiful little village with only 1,100 residents. It nestles in a valley and has a pretty little harbour. In some of the guide books it says it is the ‘most picturesque village in Cornwall’. It is really lovely with little quaint cottages and tiny narrow lanes. The cottages and houses cling to both sides of the valley. There are lots of flights of steps up and down to different houses and areas of the village. Apparently it is heaving with people in the summer, we were lucky to go in March for David’s birthday and to have some glorious sunshine! We enjoyed drinking in ... read more
