Well, another week has passed. We have now been in England for over a month. Time is going by pretty quickly, but we are both very ready for a week off! We're totally knackered from our long days and late nights of work! Our trip to Spain is looking better and better each day. It's Thanksgiving back home, so I (Bri) know that we're missing a big family meal with everyone. Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, veggies, deviled eggs, pumpkin pie, dutch apple pie, homemade whipped cream, and then a nap because no one can move! It makes me a bit homesick! We went food shopping today to pick up a few things to have our own Thanksgiving meal here. Will and I have offered to cook a big Thanksgiving meal for everyone in the house ... read more

Guess where we're going!? - SPAIN!!! Well, Barcelona to be exact. The English school year includes a one-week break each term, and the first break is October 20th to 28th. Tonight we booked our flights, hotel and tickets to a few attractions. We fly out of London the morning of Saturday, October 20th and we will be returning Friday, October 26th. We purchased a 5 day 'Barcelona Card' which gives us free entry to many museums and attractions, discounts at some shops and restaurents and unlimited travel on public transport. Some attractions we may visit are: Museum of Decorative Arts, Natural Sciences Museum, Botanical Gardens, Picasso Museum, the temple of the Sagrada Familia, the Perfume Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. We can also go on a guided walk of the Gothic Quarter, or of ... read more

Will and I spent our afternoon yesterday walking around town doing some shopping. We finally got our home phone and internet set up and we also bought ourselves a mobile. So, anyone who ever wants to call us can do so! We finally took some pictures of the town where we live. Our house is within walking distance of anything we need (bus and train station, food stores, shopping centres, restaurants, etc.). At the end of our street is a bridge that crosses a canal. On the other side of the canal is the main square where most things are located. We have put pictures in our Gallery for you to look at! Believe it or not, there is a pub in the square called The Slug and Lettuce. Such a funny name if you ask ... read more

This week was pretty "normal" and laid back. We went to a PD (professional development) training course on Monday in Aylesbury. It was actually quite useful. It was geared towards overseas trained teachers new to the Math teaching profession. We got to sleep in a bit since we live in Aylesbury and didn't have far to go! The rest of the week at the school went by pretty fast. We are always happy when the weekend arrives! Tonight we plan on going out with our housemates for dining and dancing. We're going to a Pad Thai restaurant, followed by some drinks and dancing at a local pub. There may be another teacher from Canada who works at the same school as two of our housemates coming out with us as well. It should be a fun ... read more

I (Bri) have a bit of a funny story for you! I was woken up early yesterday morning by people outside having a loud conversation. I was in a bit of a panic because I looked at my watch and realized it was 7:15 am! I had forgotten that it was Saturday and I thought we had to go to work (we would have had to catch the 7:30 bus). So, I turned the light on, woke Will up in a hurry, and told him it was 7:15! He sat up, picked up his watch and said "Sweetie, you would be right, except that it's Saturday AND your watch is upside down. It's only quarter to 2 in the morning. Go back to sleep." It was then that I realized it was still pitch black outside ... read more

FRIENDS, I JUST DISCOVERED THIS WENT UNPUBLISHED _ SORRY, IT WILL BE OUT OF ORDER, but I THINK I MIXED THINGS UP WHEN I TRIED TO ADD PHOTOS. It's 10:30 on Friday morning and there's a break in the action, so I thought I would write a few lines before we head into the villages of Aylesbury and Wendover. Though we had plans for Stratford-on-Avon, we just didn't think we would have time to "do" the city properly and wrap up things with Pam and Charles. We got up at a leisurely pace this morning after a full day yesterday, enjoyed walking around Wendover (saw Charles' sporting goods shop) shopped in Aylesbury and now doing some laundry in preparation of tomorrow's departure. Our major events on Thursday included an absolutely amazing (I believe I have ... read more

I had typed a bit this morning and then did a quick save as I was interrupted for a while, but now I can't get back to what I had typed. I'm going to continue presuming I can find the other few paragraphs. Basically, I said it was cold (not even up to 60), wet (it's the wettest June on record), and windy - but of course we're having a fabulous time anyway. It's just so special to be in someone's home and to travel with the Chaneys. We have seen the most beautiful countryside and quaint little historic towns. We've gone past sheep farms (with hundreds of shorn sheep) and horse farms, wheat fields, and old, old country estates. We have eaten (and had a few drinks) at OLD pubs (the first one was opened ... read more

We write this on Saturday night (May 19) after an eventful day of driving. GPS (Navman) was instructed to take us via the shortest rather than fastest route so we saw many narrow country roads and consequently very few large towns where we could fill a rapidly emptying fuel tank. Just made it to a town called Corby. Not a Sharelle in sight! Our overnight stop was made at a working farm complete with about 6 large and small housedogs, a cat, sundry pigeons, budgerigars, chooks, ducks, geese, peacocks & hens, sheep and pea hens. On the way we visited the first of Pat’s requested “Midsomer Murders” filming locations. More to be visited tomorrow. BTW the B&B owners told Pat that John Nettles (“Midsomer Murders” star) has stayed for extended periods during filming in the ... read more
