Hi again everyone, Today, Saturday, while you were still sleeping, we were on the bus Then two trains and another bus to an area not far from Sion where we are staying. Maybe you've heard of Leukerbad, Switz. High in the mountains, is the wonderful area of gorgeous peaks and thermal baths, well known for marvelous panoramic views while hiking, a wonderland for families, water and sun enthusiasts all. The results of today's a travel are seen here. I am so thankful for my tenacious, thorough guide. I couldn't enjoy all this without his expertease. Only two more trips to go before the flight home. Todays planned activity is cable car from leukerbad up to gemmi pass at 2300m then walk back down 900m back to car in less than 2 hours - have seen mountain bikers do it on you tube and not sure how tyey managed it . Tried to wait for some weather to clear but no chance - got to top no sign of any views at all - cleared as we were going down in places -"quite steep all the way down with some scary corners for lou - I think it was better she couldnt see down at some points - my toes and knees were hurting near bottom - I have taken twice as many steps as everyone else because of my little legs ! There are good times and bad times to be away from home; meeting new people, discovering beautiful landscapes, experiencing new, unfamiliar things… these are the key. Birthdays, Christmas, funerals, getting hit by a bus… always a good time to be with loved ones. Sometimes everything, well almost everything, seems to fall at once. That’s how I’d describe turning 30. I spent the day working, not a big deal, but isolated in the middle of a week-long trip with a group of international landslide experts. For them the trip was “50% culture, 50% work”, for me it was 100% free - not a bad mix. But for a birthday there wasn’t really anyone round, just a few colleagues, thirty-odd strangers, txt messages, and no net. A call from Mum at 2am let me know Nanna had passed ... read more
