Set off at allocated time with the extra stop at the cow bell shop think the owner was pleased to make a 20 euro sale at 9.10. Passed through some lovely towns on way to motorway but hit traffic problems on the a8 putting an hour onto our journey. Realised along the way we needed a toll sticker for czech but we can get at services -:you can hardly see out the front window for stickers. Weather is at 34 degrees and it is extremely hot queuing outside at services for toilets. Czech motorways very quiet once we escaped roadworks in germany. Sat nav took us straight to hotel door . We were allocated room on 14th top floor in executuve suite air conditioned suite with 2 mini bars 2 40 inch tvs bed that would ... read more

Cant believe we have only had 5 days off work so far feels like a lifetime. Good job we needed to be up early today as the 4 kids were up and noisy at 7.30! 14 mins ahead of schedule after doing our obligatory recycling ( u only get one free orange rubbish bag to encourage recycling ) after that they cost 2 pounds each even had space to recycle corks so we filled that up ! 3 hour trip to milan airport for lou to tearfully depart then we carried on for a further 6 hours to austria managing a mcd for lunch and only 2 Toilet stops . Been through a range of temperatures from 28.5 down to 16 and back up to 23 with sun and rain. Thighs are killing after yesterdays descent ... read more

At last blue sky so up for the day at the glacier.. suspension bridge funicular and lake hike. Set off at 10am need to get supplies in for weekend due to shops shutting at 5 and no sundays however as we only have a cool bag we decide to deal with it later - lous salmonella fear leading the way with this decision - I can see where this will head when day was meant to be 9-6! Arrived at glacier in brilliant sunshine and walked down and inside the glacier views amazing . Best quote from lou look at that it looks like sheets over the ice - thats because it is sheets covering the ice ! Over the ice grotto part to stop it melting too quick ( moves 10cm a day ). Travelled ... read more

Too much rain, so indoor activities required 1st on the agenda was europes largest underground lake - another record breaker only downside packed full of noisy kids. took out a bank loan to get the coffees in before the 30 min trip on the lake. Formed by glaciers millions of years ago discovered in 1949 still wondering how the fish got in- our french not that good. Guide was struggling for features at the end and started pointing out shapes in rocks that looked like faces, eiffel tower and crocodiles - maybe if you squint and hold your head at a 45 degree angle !! Lou added one to the list as she swore she could see an elephant - not the first time she has seen apparitions of zoo animals ...... still raining on exit ... read more

Tuesday 8th July Packed and set off at 9 to collect lou from geneva only to be told animals on road delays I dont think they would be able to beat 3000 chickens at the eccles interchange anyway nothing to be seen . 3 hours later through continuous rain we meet lou only 30 mins late. Arrived at camp 2.30 to be acquainted with our home for the next 6 days and cracked open a celebratory bottle of wine . The bad thing is it looks like will have rain every day this week and we may not see the wonderful views the area has to offer.
