Surprising things about Sweden I have spotted so far 1 I thought they would be hot on recycling but other than glass there doesn’t seem to be much effort where we have stayed 2 There is an incredible amount of bird life. Even in the city there is lots of birdsong. Walking Jeffery a short walk today there were over 30 bird nesting boxes out. Several of them were occupied. In another place there were owl boxes mounted on electricity pylons. 3 Sweden seems to have lots of low level graffiti on the lines of “Sven was here” 4 Stockholm as a city is so full of water and boats. Street art in southern Stockholm In 2014 Ake visited London and went on a street art tour in East End. That tour was really good and Ake saw much interesting art of very high quality. In the years since then we have from time to time found street art also in other cities. Whenever we on buildings or walls in cities see one piece of art that makes us stop and take a closer look we also scan the adjacent buildings. Because if there is one piece of street art there are often more. In some places they open up several walls for street art. Saturday, 24th March 2018 R popped by for breakfast this morning before our long journey to Stockholm where we would be staying over the weekend. We had a sumptuous breakfast before our long, six hours train journey to Central Stockholm. We rode on the 11.16am train from Oslo Central Station. Sitting in the First Class Coach, we found the leg room in between seats to be extremely generous. It was worth spending the SEK 100 extras for the comfort. There was a small bar at the end of our car where we could help ourselves to some coffee and water as well as some fruits and desserts. Tuesday 22nd August Our train didn’t leave until 1.30pm so we spent the morning relaxing in our hotel room until we had to leave. We had aisle seats next to an Iranian/American father and daughter who were on a whistle-stop tour of Scandinavian capitals. We had an interesting conversation about the USA and its current political situation. The scenery was the same all the way – trees, lakes, farms, villages and towns – all fairly flat. The train went north-east to Kongsvinger and crossed the border into Sweden around 3pm. The rest of the journey was uneventful and we arrived in Stockholm at 18.54, found our way to the T-bana (underground) and arrived at the apartment at 19.30. I enjoyed 3 cups of tea !!! Day one - Disaster one: We were due to fly from Bergen , via a transfer in Oslo, then onto Stockholm. Departure was scheduled for 9.20am so we had an early rise. Each leg of the two flights was about an hour’s duration and we had planned our arrival at our hotel for approximately 1.00pm. Unfortunately our Bergen- Oslo flight was delayed an hour due, to technical problems, meaning we would miss our connecting flight. Norwegian Airlines re-booked us on the next available that was departing 3 hours later so we had a long wait at Oslo airport. Things turned for the worse when that flight from our Oslo to Stockholm was also delayed. We eventually arrived at our hotel at around 7.30pm.
