We enjoyed a short 2 day stay in Stockholm at the start of our long journey from the UK to Australia. We set off by train from Darlington to Manchester Airport. Then we had a short flight with SAS to Stockholm. Our base for 3 nights was the Radisson Blu hotel at Arlanda airport. It was easy to travel into Stockholm city using the frequent bus service from the airport. We had a long walk around Stockholm and visited the amazing Vasa Museum to view the early 17th century Vasa warship that unfortunately sank on its maiden voyage. The museum describes how the Vasa was salvaged and the exhibition halls show objects from the ship and outline what life was like on board. Samozobudenie nieco okolo 7.00 Opat spolocne ranajky. Tentoraz falosne mlieko. Lea opat odchadza odprevadit mileho na vlak. Tam a nazad dokopy asi 30.min. Este motanie sa na byte. Lea kontaktovala daku slovacku ale ta sa neozvala. Tak ideme smer mestecko s…(nevim ten nazov). V plane kupa 24hod karty, no v automate ani u ujka v budke ju nemali (papierova forma). Tak mi ujko predava sl kartu (20s) a tu mi cipuje na 24hod (125s). Po uplinuti tejto doby sa karta da znova dobyt. Lea kontrolule spoje cez sl appku. Mame cas 15.min, tak mensia prechadzka v okoli stanice. Kde nic zaujimave. Ono sme na nastupiste nesli skor bo listok plati 75min. To mozno aj vysvetluje dost sprintujucich ludi na nastupistiach. Rozkladacia postel s velmi makky matracom ale pohoda spanok. V noci ma zobudila macka. Pri mojej hlave ma taky stlp kde ma rozne medziposchodia. Normalne z vrchu (pri plafone) skakal dole. Na ranajky dake lisovane chleby s medom a fajn olivovou natierkou Nieco po 9.15 vyrazam na moju tour de metro. Jonas mi neodporucal ist medzi 8.00-9.00 to je najvacsia spicka. Fasujem maly skladaci daznik. Dnes by malo byt cely den zamracene a obcas prsat. Zelenym T sa presuvam na t-centrale. Tu pofotenie povrchu, ludi v uliciach este malo. Na vlak stanici navstevujem info centrum, berem mapu metra a mozem ist spoznavat metro kulturu. Prva zastavka je na rovnomernej stanici ako sa ide na modre T. Pekne pomalovane steny prakticky celeho nastupista. Kungstradgarden je dalsia art zastavka. Tez posobive. Z nastupista idem k turniketom ale len ... read more

What a wonderful end to the day! We had a leisurely start to the morning, followed by a leisurely breakfast, for today we join our ship. When we have a voyage ahead of us we don’t go out and occupy ourselves for the morning, we just bide our time in our hotel room, packing, tidying and just waiting till it’s the right time to leave. We had our room until checkout of 12 noon, but we took ourselves down to reception at about 11.30am, checked out and went outside to the waiting taxis. The first cab on the rank was driven by a young guy in his 20s, born and raised initially in Baghdad. Wow! Well, the flight from Sydney to Dubai on Emirates was uneventful. We had a woman say “oh look, you’re on our tour” because we still use our Bunniks luggage straps from however many years ago! We explained that no, we were not going to Morocco with her. We had one of those escape rows on the plane, just across from the babies, and weren’t they gorgeous? Two little boys, fraternal twins aged 8 months. They were so happy and placid. One was a redhead (Patrick) and the other dark haired (Finn) - off to Ireland to meet one set of grandparents for the first time. Very exciting. There was also a girl travelling alone with a wedding dress in a big bag. She was wearing an ivory velvet tracksuit (over which I would’ve spilt everything) ... read more
