I´ve been here a little over a week, and I´m just starting to feel home-sick (which is normal). It is just difficult to be in a strange city where you can´t speak the language perfectly, etc... Today I had to run errands and it took me three hours, because you have to go to a different store for everything, they just need to get a Target, lol. But other than that I´m having the time of my life. My classes are awesome and my teache really seems to care. But tonite I have a ton of homework: an essay describing someone I know, a bunch of workbook pages, and some reading to do. But it makes sense, because the have to fit a semesters worth of learning into 1 month. I´m going to have dinner ... read more

ME ENCANTA SAN SEBASTIAN MUCHO!!!!! I´m in an internet cafe now, so I can´t write much, because I am going to go broke. The internet lab at school is broken until Friday and then I can use it for free. San Sebastian is wonderful. There are three beaches here, unfortunately it hasn´t been nice enough to lay out, but it is supposed to get warmer on wednesday! We had our first day of class today, and I think I am in the right level, I understood everything our teacher told us today, but she said it would get harder. Some friends and I walked around the city last night looking for somewhere to eat and apparently all the restaraunts are closed on Monday after lunch? who knew? So we ate an an American tex-mex place (we ... read more

We are in San Sebastian! Europe » Spain » Basque Country » San Sebastian By BabyruthMay 27th 2007Amanda Robinson We just got into San Sebastian an hour or so ago and it is amazing from what we have seen! Tonite we are staying in a gorgeous hotel and tomorrow we have orientation and move into our apartments. The city is centered around a river and the Bay, and everything is within walking distance. Today on our bus ride up we stopped in Segovia. We saw a 2,000 year old Roman Aquiduct and it was just mind-blowing, because they used no mortar or anything, simply pressure to create the arches.... read more

hola dudes....this is the new beach town to chill out at. san sebastian was our first stop on train from bordeaux and the sun was out. that was already a good sign since our trip around france was gloomy. this little resort town reminded me of santa monica pier and good old sd. it made me miss my college years and the BEACH! it was so nice to go to the beach when it was warm. i wish we could have stayed longer than 3 hrs. from san sebastian we had to travel to bilbao...which has an amazing Gugginheim museum. its completely massive. very modern architecture. too bad we got to the city too late to go inside. bilbao for being a larger metropolitan area was pretty damn ghetto. the hostel/hotel we stayed at was in ... read more

After checking out the surf beach from Zurriola Promenade in San Sebastian it was time to leave the surfers and that bizarre naked man who was just walking up and down along the beach (go figure) and head back past the Kursaal to the old part of town. On the way I passed the same old sandstone building that I had during the past three days. It was then that I realised that it was a theatre and that there was a show on that night. Imagine walk past the same building all the time and it finally dawns on you that it is a theatre, so much for thinking that I was one of the sharper tools in the shed, oh well. Thinking a bit of culture could be a good idea it was off ... read more

With all the travel shows on the tv none of them get around to mentioning the mundane tasks that go on while you travel. Washing is one of these mundane things. There´s only so many times you wash things in the bathroom sink with the belief that they are clean. Today´s adventure was to find a laundramat in San Sebastian, a simple task really, first stop the lady that looks after the pension that I´m staying in. She was kind enough in her broken English (which is 4 000 000 times better than my tokenistic Spanish) to point out a couple of places on the map. She also gave me the tip to keep an eye on my washing in case it did a magic trick and vanished. Now not wanting to walk the streets aimlessly ... read more

Who would have thought after running away from Nantes that the rain would follow me down here. Oh well liked the place so much that I´m going to stay for a few days anyway before working out where to next. San Sebastian really comes alive in summer, the major selling point for the pension that I´m staying in is that it is close to La Concha beach. La Concha beach is a crescent shaped beach that you can imagine covered in the finest of Spanish beauties taking in a little sun, the reality is that´s it not quite summer yet so the only birds on the beach are a couple of wet seagulls. But there are other features that make San Sebatian a place worth stopping, the cathedrals, the plazas, the old town and of course ... read more

we arrived by train in san sebastian at about 10:30 last night. the city is beautiful at night. it´s in north east spain right on the ocean. the town is divided by a river and the bridges glow. we didn´t have any trouble finding our hostel, thank goodness. we dumped our stuff off and went out to explore what this place has to offer at night...which is a lot! everyons is so nice and we felt completely safe...but mom, you´ll be happy to know that we were still cautious :) we started out at this really weird bar that was full of what seemed to be 12 year old...it was so bazaar. we left that one and fell into a metal bar...that was an experience. made me - tara - miss josh more than ever. ... read more

I ventured out early today to beat the crowds to the Guggenheim. The weather here isn’t so great with some light drizzle descending on me as I walk along the right bank (or is it the left bank) of the river. Bilbao (sorry Bilbo) is a lovely little city and small enough to walk around. I arrived at the Guggenheim about half an hour before opening time so I ventured away from the early birds (mainly German Seniors) in search of some desayuno (breakfast) and found an excellent little bar where I had a café con leche and a racion of tortilla, it was the perfect breakfast - just what I needed. And now back to the Museum. The Guggenheim is covered with hundreds of titanium plates which change in tone with the light of ... read more

The people of the Basque Country call this place Bilbo and so now do I. I jetted in at lunch time and my first impressions of this place are that this city isn't quite set up for tourism, not to the degree that Barcelona is at least. The Guggenheim has obviously meant that tourism is now a fact of life for this city however I get the impression that the locals are so fussed about the flood of tourists. Its now late on Friday night, its been bucketing down outside for the last few hours a spring storm that has prevented me from venturing too far. Tomorrow its a visit to the famous museum. I'm not sure what to expect, however I hope that whatever is inside this amazing peice of architecture matches the hype. ... read more
