Today the class went to the city of Cordoba. The city is really old and has a lot of history because it has fallen under the rule of so many different nations. The highlight of the trip was definately the Muslim Mosque. The Mosque was left when the christians re gained the city and instead of destroying the Mosque, they kept it for its beauty and built a Catholic cathedral inside of the Mosque. The cathedral is amazingly huge and contains some of the most amazing architecture and design I have ever seen. The attached pictures are all from inside the cathedral.... read more

Today after school we took a trip to the caves of nerja. They are extremely old and the first inhabitants of the Nerja area lived in them. The rock formations were really cool and there are supposedly wall paintings of animals but we were unable to see them. It was a pretty interesting tour but extremely crowded due to its popularity... read more

Nerja 2004 So this was it, the first time we had set off to go to mainland Spain. We’d been to Majorca before, but never to the mainland, and, of course we were looking forward to it. We had a good flight time from our local airport of 8.15 am and knew that we would be arriving in Spain at about 11.45 (they’re an hour in front of us). It’s funny how a good flight time becomes pretty rough when you add on the check in time and so on. It’s really quite remarkable that to get to Spain on the 8.15 flight, all you have to do is get up at 4.30 am and drive the 30 miles to the airport in time to check in. Ah, the convemience of modern life! However, having checked ... read more

Well hello x x I arrived on time with absolutely no problems. It is so weird to think how different life can be within only a matter of 11 hours. Firstly I must tell you about my last Day in Bangkok, I was so sad to be leaving but keep myself busy getting beautifed, having my last massage and eating great food. I went back to the GH, the one I stayed in on the very first night in Bangkok almost 7 Months ago. I put on my backpack and with my head down I walked out into the chaos that is the Koah San Road.....I looked up and who was standing there??? Cyn my Thai friend I met in Khorat, she works at the school owned by Suwan and Keith from Leicester!!!! I just could ... read more

Ok, so here are some driving pictures. I didn't realize that Spain's supply of olives and sunflowers are grown in Southern Spain, but they are. After about a four hour drive, we arrive in Nerja. Nerja is quite possibly the cutest little city in Spain. It doesn't have the same feeling as the rest of the cities that I've seen - it's more of a relaxed locals getaway. It also happens to house the world's largest stalactites and stalagmites in a cave on the hill. Pretty crazy stuff. In the cave I ran into the first rude person of our trip - a photographer in the cave. They take your picture as you come in, but I asked if they could take a group shot of our group. The photographer said no and basically took our ... read more

We got out of class early Friday so we took a daytrip to the the European resort town of Nerja. It was a hour and a half bus ride from Malaga. In Nerja we visted the Cuevas de Nerja (Nerja caves). The rock formations inside the caves have taken million of years to form. The town is a big tourism spot. I think I heard more English (British) than Spanish on the streets. ... read more

From Barcelona we flew to Malaga on the Costa del Sol and boarded a bus for the beach resort of Nerja, about 1.5 hours north east from Malaga. We had decided in Barcelona that we needed a week on the beach and Nerja had sounded like the sort of place we wanted, and we weren't disappointed. It was a lovely town, large enough to have plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops to keep us busy, but small enough to be quiet and peaceful. We found a lovely, cheap 2-star hotel with friendly, if slightly vague, reception staff (after staying there for a week we would walk in and they wouldn't recognise us and they only had 20 rooms), and settled in for a relaxing week. We happened to be in Nerja for their annual festival ... read more

27th September 2007 Our late arrival back to Nerja (or early morning) took it’s toll on us and we had a very late start to the day. We had planned to visit some caves in the area but that got shelved because we cold not get ourselves up and running. Instead we spent the day lazing by the pool, drinking more beers and relaxing. Lorenza and I took another spin through the town looking in a few shops. We came across one which sold some lovely Flamenco dresses, very expensive but absolutely beautiful fabric and design. Even though they realised we had no intention of spending 1500 euro on a dress the ladies in the shop were only too happy to show us the variety of different designs they sold. They were spectacular dresses, but back ... read more

24th September 2007 The drive from Madrid to Nerja took us south through the centre of Spain, via dry, open country with millions of olive trees (no wonder the food is drenched in olive oil), then via spectacular granite hills and mountains. On the news we had heard that part of the Costa del Sol area had been declared a disaster zone. This was due to a huge downpour of rain and a hail storm which then resulted in some terrible mudslides. As the news report was in Spanish we were not sure of exactly where this had happened. We soon found out! When we made it to the coast we drove through some towns that were covered in mud. There were cars barely visible from the muck and lots of debris in the streets. There ... read more

Hola! All is welll here. I´m still enjoying my Spanish class and my host family. Everyday my host family gets better and better. Today I met their grandaughter who is 2.5 years old and takes flamenco dancing lessons. She´s adorable. My host parents are 80 years old and sometimes they stay up/out later than Amanda and I do. Spain has such a unique schedule.. One really neat part about Granada is that there´s a strong Jewish, Christian, and Muslim history here. There´s a huge cathedral and mosque but also there are tiles with the Star of David on the sidewalks. There´s a large student population (50,000) that attend different universities in Granada. I´ve already fallen in love with Granada and this is just the first stop. We took a day trip to Nerja, a beach about ... read more
