The train ride from Zagreb to Ljubljana was surprisingly short. I knew it was only going to take two hours, but I’ve been so used to 6-8 hour journeys that I didn’t realize just how short 2 hours actually was. Before I knew it I looked up and saw the Ljubljana signs. I checked the time and sure enough it had been 2 hours. I arrived in Ljubljana a little before noon and checked into my hostel right in the middle of downtown. After I checked in I set out to explore the center of town. The main square was just a few blocks away. The square was actually a circle surrounded by unique and colorful buildings. The square was bordered by the river elbow to the south. A bridge that was actually 3 bridges crossed ... read more

Hello, Apologies for the delay in posting this entry (and the next and final one). Strangely for our expectations of Europe we have in fact struggled to find easily accessible internet with USB connection to upload blog entries and photos. For instance in the town of Bled, the only internet computers are located at the travel agencies and you can only use them to search the web! But to return to our adventures..... In order to have a truly wonderful time in Slovenia - and we heartily recommend that you come to this country if you ever have the chance - we suggest you do as we did. After farewelling Zagreb and its wonderful tofu-tasting fair and towering funicular, we caught the train to Ljubliana, the capital of Slovenia. We then exited the train station and ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 39 3rd - 13th June 2010 Off to pastures new - Eastern Europe - To Slovenia via Bavaria and Austria .........and a brush with the law in Austria Dover - Dunkerque, Luxembourg, Neuschwanstein Castle, Berchtesgaden, Oberammagau (above panorama), Grossglockner Pass, Zell am See, Julian Alps, Lake Bohinj, Lake Bled, Ljubljana and Portoroz Things were a little different back in 2004 when our epic 18 month motorhome journey through Europe started. But Eastern Europe now beckons the tourist; the strife of war has passed into peace and harmony with any luck and adventurous motorhomers like us can now venture into calmer waters with happy hearts. There are now five of us on board our Burstner motrohome, Bertie. There's Janice the navigator, Todd, our well-travelled bear, Suzie, (Todd's blonde floosie), me, David, the driver ... read more

Slovenia. A small country I knew nothing about apart from it being boarded by Croatia, Austria and Italy and had some Alps going for it and a pretty river. But I soon found out that this place and it’s people are so beautiful. I soaked up as much as possible and can’t wait to come back. Our Eastern Trekker group made the boarder crossing from Croatia without having to bribe anyone as is known to happen (although part of the European Union for a while the boarders are still in dispute). First we stopped off in the capital Ljubljana for a quick poke around the pretty city, but being a Sunday not much was happening. So we made our way to the Alps area and Bled where we were to stay for a couple of nights ... read more
