The Troll Ladder or Trollstein 16 June 2014 We left Alesund and traveled along the Storfjord to Sjoholt, Stordal and onto Andalsnes. The road from Stordal to Andalsnes is the Troll Road. Everyone that we had spoken to has told us that we must drive along the Troll Road. The meaning of the name Trollstigen is probably The Trolls Ladder, but in the local way of saying the name as Trollstien, it gets the meaning of The Trolls Path. It has connection with the Trolls, and as the only place in Norway you can here find the official road sign with a troll on it. Dojechalam do Norway:) Mam sie swietnie i nie moge uwierzyc ze znow tu jestem!!! Niby nic nie mialam ogarnietego ale Bogi jak zwykle nie zawiodly i siedze wlasnie otoczona sukniami slubnymi wiszacymi nad moja glowa i pisze do Was. Jestem bardzo oszolomiona bo wlasnie zoladek dal mi znac, ze nadchodzi pora obiadowa, a gdy moj wzrok padl na zegar okazalo sie ze jest 23:00!!:) Urok bialych nocy:) Co do Bogow to zgotowali mi znacznie wiecej niz szczesliwy (choc z perypetiami, bo cudem zdazylam sie przesiasc w Oslo. Samolot prawie odlecial mi sprzed nosa.) przelot i cudowne przyjecie. Bogowie laskawi postanowili dac mi troche wolnego i urzadzic wakacje zanim rzuce sie w wir pracy - jutro jade z nowo poznanymi znajomymi (tak,tak, wyladaowalam 2 godz temu i juz wszystko wiruje w zawrotnym tempie!!!:) do ich domku letniego ... read more

North of Steinkjer, we leave the fjords behind and the terrain turns to smaller but still respectable mountains and pine forests. After a full day’s ride from the fjords, we finally cross the Arctic Circle into the land of the midnight sun. The main highway to the north is known as the Arctic Highway. Much like the Alaskan Highway, during the summer months it sees a plethora of motorhomes and motorcycles making the trek to the Nordkapp, the northernmost point on the European continent. Parts of the highway were built during World War II by the German occupying forces using slave labor. The road makes its way along glaciated rock formations, some of them resembling the domed rocks of Yosemite Park. The road is an endless series of S-turns.
