Had a nice short flight on Icelandair to Oslo. Andy was there to meet us. We stopped in Honefoss on the way to Snarret, to Joan who is recovrring from a broken hip. Through the twisting bends of the road we made our way to the cottage. It was great seeeing it through Axels eyes. This is my 4th summer here but I was able to show him all the things I had been talking about over the last two years. Axel says my descriptions and photos don’t do justice! We spent the day enjoying the outside. We had cheese and breads for lunch, did a little ATVing and chatted. We enjoyed dinner alfresco and enjoyed the company and conversation. What would dinner be like however without Andy playing the horn. It was like it had ... read more

19th July Oslo This was a late (but scheduled) arrival for us, berthing at 11 am. But another spectacular cruise for some 60 miles sailing up Oslofjord docking in the heart of Oslo. Any closer and the ship would be berthing in the main reception area of the Radhuset City Hall, a very austere looking building overlooking the port of Oslo. One of the main attractions of Oslo is its museums, and oh boy do they love their museums and galleries. Our daily programme lists 24 museums and galleries and that doesn’t include Sculpture parks, churches and Cathedrals. The museums range from the Resistance Museum to more seafaring based ones which include the National Maritime, the Kon Tiki, and the Fram Museums. The Fram was the vessel that Amundsen and Nansen made their Arctic and Antarctic ... read more

At the point that Bill and I were about to leave this Cosmos tour of Scandinavia, I thought it was only fair that we should talk with our program director to let her know about our dissatisfaction with the lack of information and the non-centrally located hotels offered on this trip. This was not a comfortable thing for me to do. She obviously knew about the hotel locations (and may have picked them herself), but seemed surprised when I mentioned that we had expected frequent commentaries during the bus rides; she said she thought no one was interested since no one was asking questions. We were sitting in the back of the bus, so it wasn't possible for her to hear us at all, but I felt it was up to her as the program director ... read more

Today we are in Bergen. It is still a beautiful city. We haven’t been here since 1985l Today is a beautiful day, bright and sunny and warm for Norway. We had a private tour to Lysekloster Island. A very famous Norwegian. Ole Bull owned this island and built a house here. Ole Bull was a violinist of great renown. He was a friend of Grieg. He was extremely popular during his life and traveled all over the world. He built his house in one year on this island using local workmen and native pine. ... read more
