Day 26 : Tuesday 1 October 2019 : Bike ride to Lazise, Bardino and Garda on Lake Garda We are trading sore feet for sore bums. We hired bikes from the caravan park. Its a coastal path that goes from town to town, and quite busy on this glorious sun shiny day. It's a huge lake, but a beautiful ride up the east side. Lazise is our first town with a wonderful old town centre with cobblestone paving, narrow alleys and picturesque squares and a harbour set right in the centre. It seems to be a walled town or castle originally. We parked on the outskirts and wondered in. Great shopping, best we've seen. Use girls couldn't resist and made some purchases, whilst Graham amused himself with more calamari. That's it, going back for more seafood, ... read more

June 9, 2018, and flight home June 10, 2018 Today we went to beautiful Lake Garda. From Wikipedia: Lake Garda (Italian: Lago di Garda or Lago Benàco, Latin: Benacus; Lombard: Lach de Garda; Venetian: Łago de Garda) is the largest lake in Italy. It is a popular holiday location located in northern Italy, about halfway between Brescia and Ve... read more

For the first time we booked a place at the next campsite, Tiglia on Lake Garda, as they were now starting to fill. The owner took delight in telling us that he had saved us a place alongside the lake (we were about 2 metres away with a great view). However it was not so peaceful as there was a continuous cocoffeny of quacking from what turned out to be Great Crested Grebes (ducks to us). Lake Garda is of course very beautiful with clear blue water. Strangely and contrary to the normal view, we found more Dutch than Germans. We thought we had escaped the heat but still it was 32 and 33 degrees each day. Most evenings were spent with a German family from Dusseldorf. Terry would talk to Uva in English about football ... read more

Before we start - don't forget that not all the photos are alongside the text, most are below it. So don't miss those fab snaps by being hasty and not scrolling down!! S&C ------------------------- Lake Garda - Bella Italia, at last. The mother of all storms came in across Lake Guarda on our first day and we were outside at 10pm pulling in the sun shade as the night crashed and flashed around us and torrential rain came down. Next morning you wouldn’t have known there had been a storm at all, the day dawned bright and clear. Cathy and Tony flew in to Verona and joined us for a week of children and parent spoiling and sight seeing at Lake Garda. We are all staying at Camping Viaggio “Weekend” in Cisano. The campsite is a ... read more

Blog 4: The Italian Lakes: Lake Garda Buongiorno to blogees who have survived our blogs to this point, thanks for sticking with it. Someone asked when we get the time to do this. Well because the netbook is portable we can use it in airports, on trains, at stations and after we return from dinner in the evening. It is an excellent distraction at these places. Day 1 Short train trip from Verona to Desenzana at the base of Lake Garda. we leaped onto a ferry to Malcesine up near the top of the lake. The ferry criss crossed the lake and pulled in at the most delightful looking little villages. At Malcesine we ascended to the top of Mt Baldo (named after my head) in a cable car which held about 50 people max ... read more

Tuesday, May 25th: Well…despite my dads’ thoughts that we could NOT all be happy in one room, we actually did just fine! After all, we had walked all day the previous day, and had woken up super early too, so that we just were plumb exhausted! My mom and dad are natural early risers, so they got their showers in first, and went down to the hotel café to get their coffee, while I took my shower. The shower was very modern…all glassed in, but it had a hand held showerhead…I hate those things!! It seems they never point in the right direction, and sure enough, this one didn’t either, and I ended up soaking the floor somehow…ugh…oh well! So Kenya and I went down to join my parents in the café. The breakfast was buffet, ... read more

Lake Garda 24th September. We spent a night at Le Terraze near Verona. It was next to Lake Garda, which is a huge lake close to the freeway. You couldn't even see the other side of the lake. It looked like the ocean. The hotel had a great pool and a good breakfast included. We could see the lake from our room. Before we left, we went down to the lake for a swim. The water was a good temperature. There were lots of skimming pebbles near the lake, so we had a competition. Lake Garda was a cool place to visit. By Jarah... read more

I got up early again and headed down to the lake, but, this time, rather than going for a run I took my camera for some early morning photography, whilst the town was calm and peaceful. For one last day of fun and games before we headed back to the UK, we decided to go to the Caneva Aquapark. There were lots of different water-rides to choose from, some nice and sedate for my wife and some more wild for our son and daughter (both worked for me). Much to her annoyance, however, our daughter seemed to have lost some height since we were in Garde Land (see ) as she was no longer 1.4m tall – probably due to not having any shoes on. There was the water-jump, the blackhole, the typhoon, the anaconda, the ... read more

We couldn’t put it off any longer. Today, we headed off to Gardaland, the main theme park in the area. It’s very Disney-like in many respects, but without all the princesses and people dressed-up as mice (see ). The theme character here is a dragon and we saw him walking around, but we didn’t queue for photos. I can’t imagine where they got the idea to call one of the rides - Thunder Mountain, but I would imagine that the Disney copyright police have been checking the place out. We enjoyed Gardaland, but the heat was sweltering and, like Disney, there were long queues for all the main rides. We went on a nice, tame, gentle, sedate train ride to keep my wife happy, as she hates the more violent rollercoasters. She stayed away from the ... read more
