Woke up today to rain or should I say a realheavy mist that lasted till 7pm and then out came the sun. One thing that became rather apparent was that nothing really starts before 10 or 11. Banks open at 10 and all attractions at 10 or 11 and they close at 5. This can make for short tour day, We had a 2 hour lecture and skit on the 1918 revolution and went to see the Book of Kells and the LARGE library at Trinity University and then on to the Museum of Archaeology,Natural History, etc. No trip to would be complete without the visit to Brazen Head Pub...the oldest pub in Dublin. Only thing I can say that of all the pubs I have between in here it was the only one with a Coors ... read more

So we had quite the interesting start to our Eurotrip part 3. Tabi and I were visiting with our friends Filip and Lidijia that evening before we had our morning flight to Scotland. At midnight we started to head to the airport since we were planning on sleeping at the airport since our flight was departing at 7:30a.m. On the highway to the airport the car started to overheat. When we were stopped on the side of the road it was discovered that there was no water in the car to cool it down. So Filip and I started to walk somewhere to try to find some water. We eventually found a McDonalds and since the lobby was closed we had to walk though the drive thru. Now I forgot to mentioned Filip just turned 27 ... read more

Before I start writing, please let me say this disclaimer: this entry is full of my thoughts after conversations, presentations, and observations while in Ireland. I have not researched these topics further than stated above nor do I mean to offend anyone with these thoughts. I am simply sharing some of the thinking and mulling I've been doing while in Ireland at the MISTEC conference. I also apologize in advance if you get confused while reading...Im going to be free writing and won't be proofreading for flow and order. Thanks for bearing with me! :-) When I initially signed up for MISTEC I assumed there would be a few professors since teacher education was part of the commission but I did not expect everyone to be a professor or a Ph.D. candidate. In the end, I'm ... read more

What a whirlwind week! Sorry for not posting everyday like I promised...the internet where I stayed was not reliable and would often only work for a few minutes each night. So, hear I am at the end of the week, in the airport waiting to leave Scotland, with a lot of updating to do. This entry is going to focus on the cultural activities that were part of the conference. After the sessions each day, the MISTEC delegates went on a series of cultural excursions to help us understand and learn about the Irish culture. City of Dublin Bus Tour I finally got to live my dream of going on a second story, open tour bus! The whole delegation piled into the bright yellow bus, cameras in hand, ready to see the city. I was very ... read more

Arrived in Dublin around 8:30am and got through baggage claim and customs in record time. Because my guesthouse doesn't start check-in until 3pm, I was going to go to the conference first but that doesn't start until 11am, which left me 2.5 hours of spare time. Rather than head into the city and explore with a huge suitcase that screams "tourist!" I decided to get a good breakfast at the airport. In retrospect, I am so glad I did that because there was no time to eat the rest of the day! Around 11:30, I ventured out to find the City Bus 16, which would take me to St. Patrick's College where the conference is being held. Thank goodness the people here are so nice! When I got to the bus, I realized I was 20 ... read more

Geo: 53.3441, -6.26749Last night we went to sleep by 11:30, a bit earlier than we have been. The lodge was quiet by then; no more children were running in the halls. All seemed fine until around 3:30 a.m. when we heard a loud group banging around slamming doors and stomping their feet. That lasted thirty minutes then was quiet again. The night was okay except for that. The lodge is basic but has done a good job of describing itself so we knew what to expect. At the lodge we saw a lively mix of people. One big group of folks were all gussied up for a wedding. Another group were dressed in period clothes of peasants of the middle-ages. Lots of young people and a few older ones were rather grubby and had the look ... read more

After 18 hours of travel time, Kelsi and I finally made it to Dublin. The started with me leaving my passport at the Delta counter in Omaha (whoops!) Thankfully it was still there when I realized it was missing. Our flight was delayed in Atlanta for 4 hours. So we had a total of 7 hours to kill there. We went to almost every terminal out of boredom. We finally started boarding the plane at 10:30pm and took off at 11:20pm. The flight was just shy of 8 hours. Kelsi and I were both hoping to get a good amount of sleep on the flight over, but each only manage about 3.5 hours. We finally arrived in Dublin, Ireland at 11:30am. We took a taxi to our hotel and experienced our first car ride on the ... read more

The day before we departed on our Europe Trip we spent some time in Phoenix Park. It has a 11km perimeter wall that encloses 707 hectares of land which makes it one of the largest walled city parks in Europe. We also went downtown to the Temple Bar area for some drink and dancing before we headed off the next morning to Venice, Italy.... read more
