More Irish terminology: Happy out - this just means "happy," but for some reason they feel the need to add "out." Press - a press is what they call a cupboard or cabinet. Pint of Gat - another name for Guinness. Apparently if someone asks if it's good Gat, and you're not sure how to judge it, simply respond with "sure look it." These are some of the more commonly used terms I've heard and began to use myself. It really is true that you start to talk like the people you are around the most... I don't have an Irish accent though! Regarding the above, I came to the decision that I'm not the biggest fan of dark beer. I know what you're thinking, she is in Ireland!! How could she not love THE Guinness?! ... read more

For starters, Caitlyn and I made it to work on time the rest of the week! Hooray! Working at PALS has been amazing and I've only completed five days. The staff are all very friendly and the kiddos are the sweetest. The program runs in the following order: play, individual therapy, circle group time, play, lunch, individual therapy, play, group speech time, play, and store and goodbye time. Play, behavioral and speech goals are worked on throughout the day, but the group and individual sessions are where it is broken down into specific step by step programs to help each child. The children, as you can imagine, are small, never ending balls of energy! In addition to their schooling five days a week, many of them are potty training and in the after school social skills ... read more

Awake at 5.30am, wide awake, so after reading and writing my blog I got up and went exploring. Beautiful morning, sunshine and clear and crisp. Did a few blocks around the hotel and back for breakfast. Off to CitySightSeeing hop on hop off bus for the day. Red double decker and a great tour guide Jerry, so we stayed on for the whole trip and then knew what we wanted to see in the next loop. First Trinity College and the Book of Kells . Beautiful buildings and a fabulous display on the Book of Kells, you only get to see 4 pages of the actual book but the display shows you many more in large images and explains them etc. I read People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks a few years ago and it ... read more

Thoughts on countries so far: Scotland - Cold, windy, beautifully! Drive on the wrong side. People are friendly. Galic is weird! Really like Irn Bru soda! Neil, our guide rocks! Germany - Warmer, but windy on the Rhine. Enchanting towns. Everyone rides bicycles. Inexpensive for a tourist area. Dogs are everywhere... even restaurants, stores, and train stations! Luxembourg - It may be the country with the highest income per capita in the world, but they don't keep their streets and public places very clean! Spend some money on public maintenance! Clothing... women's at least, is expensive! Lower Luxembourg City (Base?) is quite pretty. Brussels - Very diverse in people and buildings. A lot of historical places. European Capital, and buildings to show for it. Never seen so many Kebap or Doner meat restaurants. Waffles are grrrreat! ... read more

Left Perth at 6.05am on Sunday. Emirates flight half empty so we had space to spread out. Flight was non-eventful but long, slept, watched several movies, crocheted, ate, read, slept, ate, you know how it goes on an 11 hour flight. Transit for 3 hours in Dubai then it was groundhog day and it all started again for 7 hours. I've decided that it is very easy to get into Ireland, just answer the question of how long you are staying and smile and you get a stamp, customs didn't even look at my photo or details or anything, quickest customs I have ever been through! Picked up our car, entered hotel address in Tom Tom and off we went. Turn left, woops that's the windscreen wiper, turn right, woops clean windows again, remember it is ... read more

The sun rises at 5:30am and that is about the time I woke up for internship day 1. It started out like a typical first day of work and soon turned into a scene from a comedy movie. Like most people, Caitlyn and I woke up early to leave extra early in case of small mishaps. Key word: small. Everything was smooth sailing as we got off bus #1 and to our stop for bus #2. Caitlyn and I are waiting by the curb like every other commuter when our bus comes around the corner and drove right past us. We look at each other, scream a little, and sprint after it (arms slightly flaling). There was a lot of "What the !" and "Classic Caitlyn and Sav day 1!" We walked one block over to ... read more

The weekend has been a great start to my stay here in Dublin! Saturday morning Nanna and I headed over to University College Dublin where I checked in to my apartment. I was hesitant to what it would look like as UT Dallas (UTD) spoiled us with the brand new dorms and the huge apartments on campus. Walking in I yelled "Hello!" in case anyone was already there. I shouldn't have been nervous because our flat is extremely nice with a four bedroom, two bathroom layout. There is also a large living area that opens up to a kitchen. Just after I placed my luggage into my room, Caitlyn popped out of her room! She, along with 28 other UTD students, were arriving all day Saturday. We were both so happy to be rooming with familiar ... read more

We finally made it! After two days of traveling and the best luck possible we have made it to Dublin! We had a 12 hour layover in Charlotte, NC, but it was all made better when we found out that we were flying first class to Dublin. The flight was incrediable and I never wanted to get off the plane. There were so many buttons that alloweded us to watch movies, TV or play video games. Then we could sit up, recline or lay fully down, needless to say I never slept so great on plane before. Right away we were handed a full menu and chamgane for our journey. We were given two drinks and a four course meal! I really don't think that it could have gotten much better. Once in Dublin as you ... read more

May 4 - I arrived in Dublin at 10:50 am local time, 3:50 am Alberta time. The first thing I did was look to see if the sky was clear. I was happy to see blue sky and fluffy white clouds. I decided to take a taxi to the hotel even though it is not cheap. The driver was very friendly, pointing out sites along the way and pointing out stores that the locals use for cheaper prices. When we reached the hotel he gave me a map and we stood by the car while he circled out sites close by. The hotel, Stauntons on the Green, is a wonderful old Georgian home on the south side of St Stephen's Green. The bad news is it's a walk-up and my room is on the top floor! ... read more

Geo: 53.3441, -6.26749Far too quickly, our Irish visit was coming to a close and there were still a few items on our to-do list that hadn't been to-do'd yet. There are a number of national sports in Ireland that are unique to Ireland and, for the most part, played only inside Ireland. We had seen some of the hard hitting action associated with Gaelic Football (think Aussie Rules with a soccer ball) and we picked up tickets for the opening game of the Irish Hurling season. We did have to write off the idea of catching a Road Bowling game- an Irish sport in which competitors attempt to take the fewest throws to propel a metal ball along a predetermined course of country roads- sort of an extended version of lawn bowling with a steel cannonball. ... read more
