We arrived in Dublin the other day pretty late, around 11 pm or so (I forget), so we just crashed in our hotel room as soon as we got there. We woke up today around 10:30 am because the breakfast buffet that was included with our stay was set to close at 11. The food was amazing, so glad we woke up in time for it… It was a traditional Irish breakfast, with meat pudding, glazed ham, smoked beans, sizzling sausages and baked potatoes…. as I’m writing this I’m getting hungry. We sat an enjoyed our meal in no rush, as we had no plans for the day other than to explore the area. In fact, we didn’t start venturing out until 3 pm because we did some research of the area in our room and ... read more

Farewell cycle touring Europe, Hello Ireland Our 3 months in the Schengen area were up so we had to leave. Next stop, Dublin. We found a great ride into Dublin city along the Grand canal from our hotel and rode into town a couple of times to explore and finally to catch the train to Westport and our first Irish B&B and a “full Irish Breakfast”. Loved the bacon, eggs, sausages, grilled tomato, black and white pudding (well actually, I couldn’t eat the pudding), baked beans and toast. So if we return a bit pudgier than we should be- blame the breakfasts, (and the pub dinners!) In Westport we rode the Greenway to Achil Island and then several things combined to make us scrap any further plans for cycle touring. Firstly the ride which was described ... read more

Tues 22 April 2014, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Baggot Rath. Hi everyone. The last two days have been a little bit if a blur. Sean knows Dublin well and wanted to show us as much as possible. We all got to the accommodation on Tuesday, just after lunch. Fantastic accommodation just opposite the AVIVA Stadium. It was only a short drive from the hotel for us, however Sean, Chantel and the kids caught the ferry from Holyhead (UK) to Dublin. After a quick clean-up we headed out to Dublin, which is only a few stops on the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport), in other words the, train. First stop was the first pub for a Guinness and then on to some sightseeing. First up was Trinity College, where Sean spent many years being educated and picked up the ... read more

Tues 22 April 2014 Dublin Hi everyone Finally arrived in Dublin yesterday after an epic 28 hours of travel. It’s was a killer, but worth it to get here. We arrived at Sydney airport to find our flight had been delayed by 7 hours, which was a concern for our connecting flights and the accommodation we had booked in Dublin for one night. After a little trepidation, Singapore Airlines got us on to a Qantas fight leaving at the same time. So, no A380 and no upper deck. Not to worry. We arrived in Singapore in the middle on the night and wanted to quench our thirst. Cath got a few beers that only cost $34 Australian (WTF) and that is normal price around here. Needless to say Singapore will be off any future holiday destinations. ... read more

I have been neglectful over the past few days - but we have certainly been busy! I'll recap some of the highlights since we arrived in Dublin: Wednesday, November 20th We made it to Dublin! The flight was crazy for a while because there were 40 mph wind gusts in Dublin, as well as some wicked turbulence. But, we survived and arrived at our B&B around 3 pm! Our first priority was to visit the shopping district in Grafton Street and dinner in the Temple Bar area. We also had a few (read: 4) pints of Bulmer's Cider each and listened to live musicians at Temple Bar - we felt it was deserved after the bumpy flight to Dublin. Thursday, November 21st We opted to spend our day touring Guinness and Jameson. ... read more

null Photos. I, we are having a fantastic time in Northern Ireland with the rally's it all going great. The first night we had a NZ wine with Sharon, Melvyn and Joan. The next day Wendy and hazel showed us around Belfast and Helen met us for lunch(she's so strong!) then we went to Wendy and morris's house for tea, Brent helped Morris on the farm while Wendy and I sorted tea. Melvyn, Joan, Sharon, Gavin and the kids came as well it was really nice and a good distraction for them after what had happened with Aaron. The next day Arlene and her daughter Alex came and picked us and we went out to their batch in new castle, on the way having tea and scones. We meet billy and Kaera there and went out ... read more

Hey guys, We came over to ireland and did a Shamrocker bus tour whichw as awsome, we were lucky and got the last two seats on the bus. There were 50 of us mostly ausis as usual!. We Started and finsihed in Dublin, first we went to Killarney and kissed the Blarney stone at Blarney castle to get the gift of the gab. After Killarney we carried on seeing some awsome scenery to Ennis and left a piece of our souls at the beach or so they say and if you want them back you have to come back to Ireland :). Then we headed off to Galway and saw the cliffs of Moher which were really pretty!. The next day we ditched the bus and took a ferry over to Arans Islands where the locals ... read more

Last night was incredible. It was a night to really enjoy the Irish Pub culture. Everyone is there for some fun and cheer. After breakfast, we got on the bus and headed for Belfast. Our tour guide will be teaching us an Irish pub song each morning on the bus. Today she taught us "Whiskey in the Jar"; good thing I'm Irish and already know it. Driving into the city, I can see some of the remnants of what the locals call "The Troubles". Some streets have the Union Jack and Northern Ireland flags and others have the tri-color. A local tour guide comes onto the bus to give us information about Belfast, its troubled past, and peaceful future. I could not possibly blog about all the information I learned about the struggles of Irish Catholics ... read more

Finally had a good night's sleep with the help of the NyQuil sleep medicine. Some people were leaving the tour in Glasgow and a few more will meet us in Dublin. I'm so excited to go to Ireland! After breakfast we got on the bus to catch the ferry to Ireland across the Irish Sea. Good-bye Scotland; it's been fun! Once we got to the ferry stop, our bus went through security. Some people had their bags checked, just random checks. The bus drove right on the ferry. It is like a cruise ship, not that I've ever been on one or plan to. The food court, cafe, and bar take up the top deck and there is comfy seating all around. We sail past the island. It is where they get the granite to make ... read more
