Our holiday has now come to an end. I am now sitting in Linate Airport in our first leg home, from here we fly to London and then to Sydney via Bangkok, it should take us about 32 hours to get home, I’ll be ready for a beer or two! Over the past few days we have traveled from Lake Como to Montalcino. A 14th century city perched high on a mountain with glorious view of the surrounding country side. The experience of driving in Italy has been just that! An experience. Doesn’t appear to be a speed limit on the freeways and if there is, no one takes any notice. I was doing 140klms and cars were just flying past me. We intended to spend the rest of our holiday in Montalcino, however we were ... read more

On the last leg of our tour of Europe. We are now in Italy, Lake Como and have been joined by My cousin, Stuart and wife Helen. Yesterday was spent in the airport at Paris, we had at 2pm flight and arrived early as we had nothing to do with our baggage. The only problem was our flight had been delayed for four hours due to a lightening strike. I was happy to wait for them to check out the aircraft. Nothing to do but have a few beers and wait. Arrived about 9.00pm and went out for dinner, pizza of course, accompanied by red and white wine. after a few more drinks at the apartment and plenty of celebrating we got to bed about 1am. Sunday we awoke to here the local church bells every ... read more

Our stay in Paris is coming to an end and we are ready to move onto Italy. On Tuesday evening we have had dinner at the Eiffel Tower and then cruised the La Seine. Dinner was excellent, along with the accompanying mandatory bottles of wine. The restaurant is placed on the first level of the Eiffel Tower with surrounding views of the city. After dinner we went to the second observation deck and nearly got blown away. We then sailed the Seine for a hour, but not before Cath managed to convince a waiter from a nearby cafe' to illegally supply her with six half bottles of wine and glasses for the cruise. As a result of the wine we had to get a taxi home, and then Ann showed us how to unintentionally stair surf, ... read more

Paris and we can't believe the change in the weather, left London on Saturday and headed to Paris via the Eurostar, fastest train I have ever been on. The trip took just over two hours, about the same time we had to wait for a taxi in Paris. We arrived at the apartment with seven weeks worth of luggage to find the apartment was on the fifth floor, and for any who know Paris, the apartments were constructed in the last century, their for no lifts. 60kgs of luggage to get up five floors. Needless to say we spent the rest of the afternoon familiarising ourselves with the local are and one of our local cafe'. Yesterday (Sunday) we headed to Sacre-Coeur the highest point in Paris, so informed by our tour guide. Our tour guide ... read more

Hello We left Cardiff Wales on Thursday morning in the pouring rain for London but not before we drove a little further south to the seaside town of Barry Island. For those that dont know Chris and I are mad fans of a tv show called Gavin and Stacey and it is a comedy set in that town. It was a three hour drive to London were we were meeting up with Annie as she flew into London that morning to join us for the next 3 weeks. Chris was extremely keen to get there as we also were returning the rental car and that meant no more driving for a few weeks. Yippeeeee not bad seeing we clocked up close to 2000 kms over the UK. We are picking up a car in Italy to ... read more

HIYA Not quite sure where to start today. We have had a wonderful few days with Stu and Helen in Portsmouth (Chris' Cousin). Lots of "chill out" time for Chris and I as the schedule has been quite hectic. Stu and Helen are also fantastic friends of ours and we feel very much at home with them so chilling is easy. Last Friday on our way to Leighton Buzzard (Jo and Grahams) we called in as a surprise to Chris' Grandma's house at Telford near Birmingham, but unfortunately she was not home so we left flowers and a card. Chris' Grandma is 93 years old. We were very disappointed not quite sure we would get back to see her and headed down to Portsmouth. During our quiet stay in Portsmouth we discussed that maybe Chris should ... read more

Well we have made it the sunny part of the UK, headed south from Settle on Friday after another family dinner at my cousin's Julie's and stayed overnight with friends at Leighton Buzzard, London, (about 35miles outside of London). Quite night in general, however treated to a five star home cooked meal, thank you Jo and Graham. Departed on Saturday morning and arrived at my Cousin Stuarts in Denmead, Portsmouth for a traditional BBQ. Got to say, that the weather since leaving Settle as been nothing but sunshine. Cath and I are now just chilling out for a the day before exploring the surrounding area, so it's a quite morning, before going to Portsmouth for a meal and beers. Cath's monkey bite has now all cleared up and the doctor has told her that there should ... read more

Spent some quality time with family over the past couple of days. Met my Cousin Sara and her family, not much different too us, enjoy a drink a two...........Very enjoyable time and we hope we have convinced them to visit Australia in the near future. Spent Saturday night in Manchester with my other cousin Joanne and her husband, Nathan, had drinks and then dinner at Gaucho's, a fantastic steak house. And again Cath made a very good effort to get them to Australia along with the waitress from the 'Slug & Lettuce'. The way it's going Cath and I are going to have a permanent queue of visitors at our door step. On Sunday we had a family reunion at my Aunty Jane's where Cath and I met even more relatives and although I didn't hear, ... read more

We left the Thatch house this morning about 10am to drive to Dublin and then fly to Scotland. It was freezing cold and windy in Ireland for our last day....even the locals commented....brrrrrrr. Flight was very uneventful and we were into Scotland within the hour. We picked up our rental car and GPS and headed into the heart of Edinburgh to the Radisson Blu Hotel only meters down the road from Edinburgh Castle and the Palace. A truly amazing city and you fell like you have gone back a few hundred years. The GPS got us there no problem. Chris driving very well in a new country. We checked into a beautiful room to find a bottle of wine on ice with a note to take it down stairs to the Bar as there are 4 ... read more

We had great intentions of heading down to Wicklow, south of Dublin for a drive today but woke this morning to freezing winds and rain. We were told it might not be the best day for it as Wicklow is very cold and windy on a great day due to the mountains in the area. We decided to head a little north of us to a town called Dundalk just a few kms from the coast and then dove back south on a very beautiful scenic coast road back to Rathkenny. The Irish Sea is a beautiful and a very haunting sight. I can imagine it very unforgiving and very cold. We drove through a tiny little town, which I think might be closely linked to a very good friend of mine...... The town is called ... read more
