Yesterday, my mom and I went on another Paddywagon adventure! This time we went to Cobh, Kinsale, and Blarney. Cobh is a beautiful sea-town. We are lucky because the weather there was still sunny this morning! It is the 2nd largest natural harbour in the world (Sydney is the largest). It was also the last port of call for the Titanic. After getting some great photos, it started raining so we took refuge in a little antique shop. The woman had a vinyl record player, and we had a lengthy discussion about how they are making a come back. (I had no idea, but i guess a lot of today's artists are now recording Vinyl as well as CD's). Kinsale is a neat town we stopped in for lunch. WE saw many sailboats, as well as ... read more

Thank you for the Birthday Wishes!!! I could not have asked for a more fabulous time! My mother and I took advantage of the complimentary breakfast at the hotel (It is immaculate, they have any type of breakfast food you could wish for -salmon, scones, muffins, yogurt, eggs, ect)! We went to the Cliffs of Moher, which were absolutely breath-taking. We booked the tour through "Paddywagon" company (they can be recognized by their use of bright green vans! Our tour guide was pretty funny, and very knowledgeable about the area. He found out it was my birthday and put a candle in a cupcake for me. When we returned to Cork, my roommates and a few friends had balloons and a cake waiting!! (I really lucked out with Roommates-3 American gals who are really down to ... read more

I love this Country!!! 3 3 3 The UCC campus is very beautiful and the scenery is similar to that of the Harry Potter movie set. Student involvement is incredible: it seems like there is always some event or cause happening on campus. There are also two campus bars; which often have live music. Starbucks coffee is also brewed on campus, very convenient. On Thursday, Students were handing out flyers with information about a protest that is being organized in order to combat tuition raises. The new tuition cost would be 3,000 (total) Euro per year for academics. The guy who gave me the flyer could not believe how much my tuition is in the US ...... per semester. It seems no matter how I try to fit in and be discreet, the Irish love ... read more

Wednesday (18/8/2010) Relatively refreshed after a full Irish breakfast we set off for a look around Cork. Our first stop Blarney Castle. About 20 minute drive from Cork through luscious green countryside. We walked through the beautiful gardens to the famous castle and climbed to the top to kiss the famous Blarney stone. Carly puckered up whilst Jez stuck to the photography. After checking out the wishing steps, witches kitchen and beautiful gardens. We made our way back to Cork, finally finding a car park (just about back at our B&B) we made out way to the farmers market picking up a delicious antipasto lunch and finding a conveniently located park just across the road to enjoy it in the sun. We wandered through the streets past the street preachers, checked out the price of hurling ... read more

Well not much has changed. I’m still in confined to my hospital room due to the fear that I could spread whatever illness I have to the other patients. This means I still have to use a commode to “go to the bathroom.” I wish I could just walk across the hall to the public bathroom, but nope. Oh well. It’s not that horrible. I’m still brought my meals in bed, I have a TV and books to read. I’m also able to hack onto the internet by going on Mercy University Hospital Convent’s wireless network. I wonder if that’s a sin? Oh well. I’m BORED out of my mind! I deserve the internet! I finished reading Tuesdays with Morrie this morning and now I am reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoos. I’m so far ... read more

I can tell you firsthand that the hospital system here in Cork is lovely. I wish that I wasn't already so familiar with it, but unfortunately I spent my first night in Mercy hospital. I left the next morning only to return 24 hours later. Clearly I've had nothing but good luck since landing in Shannon. I'm not really complaining though, it's really not that bad. The doctors, nurses and staff are all really nice and I currently have a private room so there isn't much to be upset about. I would prefer to be out exploring the city, but I still have 4 more months left. I decided to start this blog for two reasons. One, my friend encouraged me that it would be worthwhile for friends and family to get an update of my ... read more

We went to the Registry Office in the morning and all of our paper work was in order, so we will be allowed to get married. As an added bonus they printed off my Grandparents wedding certificate (for a measly 10 Euro) from 61 years ago. Then we spent the afternoon wandering around Cork city.... read more
