We spent about an hour in the Iceland Airport. Brief though the stop was, Bagelmonkeys made the following conclusions: - Iceland looks incredible. I was not in my usual window seat on the plane, so observations were made from afar but the landscape looked black and barren from the sky and then green and lush from the ground. Crazy mind trick! - The air was crisp and clean. After being in a stuffy airplane with head colds for 6.5 hours, we were happy to have such nice air to breathe. It must be a non-smoking airport. - Stopping in Reykjavik is the best midway point! We will have to do it again. - We did not see any of their volcanoes, active or otherwise, from the sky due to the morning cloud cover. - Bjork, though ... read more

Just got back from a 3-hour soak at Bláa lónið, the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. It's a big natural pool full of geothermally heated water, silica and minerals, algae, and all sorts of things that are supposed to be very good for you. It's also full of tourists, and old European dudes in Speedos. I'm not convinced either one of those is as good for you. Thanks to my early Icelandair flight from Seattle to Reykjavík, I caught Reykjavík Excursions' first bus from Keflavík Airport, arriving at the Blue Lagoon just at opening time, 9 AM. We had secure storage for our luggage and I opted to rent a swimsuit (€5 or €7 or something) rather than deal with soggy swimwear for the rest of the day's travel. It fit! They give out snazzy plastic wristbands ... read more

Wow. It feels like forever since I've updated this blog, but that's reality when you're on the road often. There's so many great things to share, but I feel like I have a great "comeback" blog entry. This summer, I took a week long trip to Iceland, London, and Dublin which was fantastic. Now, all these places I've mentioned aren't known for the most exotic food, but Iceland by far is known for some pretty, I'll say, "out there" eats. Of course, everyone asks me what I tried and where I ate, but the one thing that kept coming up was my experience with one of Iceland's national dishes - the dreaded hakarl. Warning - this blog article might make you sick to your stomach. No matter where I go, I always want to sample the ... read more

The Blue Lagoon is Iceland's most visited attraction, located in Grindavik, it attracts thousands upon thousands of tourists to Iceland each year. The meet-up was scheduled to take place at ten past ten past ten. But after a long Saturday night, the group was unable to get together until after 12:00 noon. Hrafn the Icelander was kind enough to pick us from our hotel (the Radisson Blu Saga) for the half hour drive to the Blue Lagoon. I must commend him because, he had stayed up till 5:00 am from the night before. We were 5 altogether, including my husband Mark, myself, Sarah, Julie and Hrafn. Now this was not part of our Golden Circle Tour, we did this independently as it was convenient to do so in preparation for the Arctic Travbuddy Meet-up. The Blue ... read more

What a great day we had to start the outdoors of Iceland! We were up early and into the city to pick up a fellow CS’er who had agreed to join us on our trip for the first few days. We headed out and our first stop was Geysir (the blow hole) and we did get a surprise here. With all the other tourists we were very excited to see it in full action and waited then a little puff of water came up no more the five meters high. We were thinking at this stage ‘this is not that exciting’ then we were walking around and a massive gush of water went flying up around 30-40 meters in the air and this was impressive. The water flys up every 5-6 minutes and the crowd is ... read more

We have arrived in Iceland after maybe one of the worst flights we have ever had, the turbulence was terrible over Sweden and Norway with the plane jumping around but we made it safe and sound to rainy Reykjavik. We were a little surprised by how little to do in the city there is, just seems a place to stay a night or two before heading out into the country. We were greeted by our wonderful hosts on arrival into the city who told us all about the country and the economy crash that happened here which is still a fairly hot topic. For the afternoon of our arrival we did not get up to much really and I guess we visited most of the places of interest in the capital. The next day we were ... read more

We went to Iceland for a reason - to meet Viking girls. We were in Iceland in early July 2010. We went there to meet beautiful Nordic women with long blond hair and blue eyes. We were four lonely Canadian boys... on a mission to meet Icelandic women, and to toast our best friend, who is getting married in a few weeks. It was around 4pm Iceland time when our flight landed at Keflavik international Airport after which our quartet was promptly shuttled to Reykjavik by minibus. That sunny afternoon, downtown Reykjavik was a balmy 10 degrees and quite busy with tourists. we moved hotels and visited The Blue Lagoon and went for a swim in the milky blue water while they sorted it all out. Our bandleader was a sefl appointed local cultural expert and ... read more

My name of David McWane, I am about to head off to Iceland for 7 days, immediately after my bands month tour across England & Europe. I want to use this time to relax, see new things, find a bit of peace after the crazy band life and have some fun. Other than what I have read here and there, does anyone have a special things to add about Iceland, maybe good hostels / hotels to stay, things to see, transportation suggestions, ect. Thanks!... read more
