Just to finish off from my last blog...my last two days in Krakow were an incredible!! I am really glad that I went to Auschwitz. Going there will obviously be a difference experience for everyone - and one that I highly recommend. We visited the salt mine in Wieliczka and walked 101 metres under ground, the whole time I felt like when you get out on the surf and your body drys and you feel salty! Very cool to see!! And yes I did lick the salty walls...very salty. The next day we did a walking tour and learned a lot about Krakow, it was one of the only cities in Poland that wasn't not destroyed in WWII, so it is very old and very beautiful. Exciting news...I survived my first over night train! Matt and ... read more

...we just don't see each other as often as I see Bratislava. This has been my 5th time in Budapest by my count, my 3rd and 4th I didn't bother writing about here, one was one of the craziest DJing trips of my life and the other was a trip with a friend. This was actually the first time I'd ever been in this city alone, so I was looking forward to exploring it without any limits. The train journey from Zagreb was made a bit more bearable by being thrown off because of engineering works for one stop before the border, which meant we got to stretch our legs and break the painfully slow 7 hour journey up a bit. I chatted up until the border with a New Zealander and a Croat, the latter ... read more

We woke up today to the sound of rain and thought temporarily we were back in Edinburgh!! Disappointed but pleased wed done most of the exploring yesterday we headed down for breakie again which was same as the day before and just as nice. We then found out about shopping in Budapest and found there was a big mall relatively close to our hotel. So, we went in search firstly with our hood up for a new umbrella as Mellow Yellow had a sad unfortunate death in Copenhagen a few weekends ago L Umbrella above us we headed to the mall and did a spot of shopping. Well be did! Shirt, jeans and shorts – good effort! I didn’t buy anything but was really cheap shopping! Decided it was time for a baileys coffee (which seems ... read more

After a lie in this am we wandered down to our buffet breakie which was only continental but still pretty good. Muesli, croissants and danishes followed by attempting to use the coffee machine! Mum and dad – its the small version of your one and luckily we didn’t get that one for jen and rich cos it only does the coffee part from what we gathered and we then had to pour cold milk in it which kinda ruined the temperature levels of the experience!! But filled up and caffeined up we trip advisered for a while to figure out what we actually wanted to do for the few days we were here. We decided to head across to Buda for the day to explore the old town. We dressed in semi summer clothes excited about ... read more

Not so early this am we boarded our plane to London to get to Budapest. Thankfully we only had a 1 hour gap between flights rather than the 4 we had to copenhagen! Loaded up on some yummy bagels and smoothies, checked in with the family and then hopped on our plane to Budapest. We had no idea what to expect and hadnt done like any research into what there was to do but we'll sort it when we get there! We were basically just excited about some actual sun and warmth which we hadnt felt in a long time!! Just under 2 hours and we had landed and spent a while trying to figure out the currency and how much we should draw out! Taking a stab in the dark we ordered a shuttle as ... read more

We stood with a map in our hands debating our chances of getting from one side of Budapest to the other. Ideally we wished to achieve this with both of us arriving unscathed. Being the coward that I am and not wanting to engage in the trials of foreign public transport I was putting my meaningless vote to a walk across town. Reality suggested this would be a long, long walk. The alternative filled me with stomach churning dread. However, this dread was going to have to be confronted and defeated in the form of the Budapest Metro; a place of nightmares. A look at the Metro sign comforted me in no way. I couldn’t pick one word out that even began to register sense. Half the words didn’t even have a vowel in them and ... read more

*sry if these first few paragraphs are weird, they were typed on my iPod.* Arrived by orangeways bus: decent bus, seats small but leather, had a stewardess, free coffee, and movies. The ride here was fun, I watched some movies, played some games, and did some reading. Slovakia was really cool, I kind of regret skipping out on Levoca and Spisky hrad but I’m glad I had a few days to chill in Krakow. I arrived at night with no map to the hostel, so I had to follow directions old school “left at the light” style which was pretty cool. The hostel was in upper floor of a building seemingly like all the others, kind of falling apart but cool, old Hapsburg architecture. Building and gated hostel door looked shady at first, but it was ... read more

So we made it in one piece more or less to Hungary Now we were a bit spoilt because I got us a deal at the Ramada Plaza, but we had to get there first. We got a 3 day travel card here for 3850 HF We also had to get some hungarian coins and figure out what the hell they all meant! So we got the metro to the overground and then it was only a 5min walk from the overground. Dropped our bags off at the hotel as check in wasn't till 2pm and decided to go look at something close by. Hopped back on the tram and went down towards castle hill. We figured out we could use our cards to swipe open the bank in order to get money out, which was ... read more

Hello all! Well we were definitely spoiled with our very inexpensive apartment in Budapest. It was huge and very nice. After over 24hours of not showering, it was just about the greatest sight to see when we first arrived. We had our own kitchen, beds, dining room, and our porch overlooked the basilica! We had two full days, so I made it a point to get a very needed hair cut for the equivalent of $15. Where are these prices in the states?? Communicating with a hairdresser who barely speaks English was quite a challenge but turned out well. We found some great Hungarian food, my body has definitely missed meat and dad would have loved the gyros! We did a lot of walking around the city and found the Opera House, a mosque, climbed to ... read more
