Arrived in Budapest after a very long train ride from belgrade, however the good news was the train station was only a 3 minute walk from the Hotel. had a chance on the first night to have a look around and get my bearings, seemed to get a little lost and apparently was walking parallel to the Danube without actually seeing it! Next day tried to cram as many touristy things in as I could. Saw the Museum, Parliament, Buda Castle, castle Hill, The Chain Bridge and Budapest Castle (complete with Funicular). It has been a while since we had a good computer to use, so sorry that pics haven't been posted. Sorry also if there are any crazy spellings. I've been trying to work my way around these keyboards...the letters aren't always the same. After we left Prague and went to Terezin concentration camp for half a day. It is considered to be one of the more "tame" camps, but was still very difficult to see (and to not tear up when reading about those who stayed or died there). After a good night’s sleep, I set out this morning on a day of touring Budapest. My first stop was the Central Market a few blocks from the hostel. But it’s Sunday so it was closed. I did get a peak inside through the window and it looks enormous. I think I missed out on this one. From there I took a leisurely stroll over the bridge to the Buda side. After last night’s merry making I, along with all the other guests at the hostel, took our times getting up and getting ready. I still hadn’t done any research on what there is to do in Budapest when Steve asked what I was up to today. He said a lot of people were going to a Turkish thermal bath in the city. Sure. I’m in. Today was my last day in Budapest, so I had to check out of the B&B after breakfast. Was able to store my bags while I did some last minute sightseeing. The weather was a little less cold and was dry today. Took the Metro to a bus stop for a trip to Statue Park, also known as Memento Park. After the fall of Communism, the many statues around Budapest were taken down and are now at this park. I arrived in Budapest this afternoon. Another uneventful train ride. The train was late again. They seem to always be. Not a big deal - I don’t have grand plans here. The hostel in Budapest is a bit different than most I’ve stayed at. It’s much more of a laid back crowd. I could easily see them having the place on a beach with a campfire if they could. Today was the day I met Carolyn Bánfalvi for a walking tour of the Central Market Hall. I took the tram down the Buda side of the Danube, and walked over the green Liberty Bridge. Was a very easy stroll and quite pleasant regardless of the cold rain. Carolyn was a great tour guide and full of information. We were up, down and all around the Hall looking at cases of fresh produce, including things that I really haven't seen since I was a kid.
